This app turns your Windows Phone device into a magnetic field detector

0. phoneArena posted on 07 Apr 2014, 10:14

In this line of thought, say "Hello!" to Magnetic field detector – a Windows Phone app that enables your device to discern metallic from non-metallic objects. As you may have already guessed, the app uses the built-in magnetic sensors in your device. What's more, Magnetic field detector displays the magnetic field strength of the tested object and shows its amount in microteslas, the unit for magnetic flux density....

Most new phones have a build-in compass (magnetometer sensor), so this app could actually work.

Why the H8 on an app for WP users? It isn't raining on your iOS or Android parade, so why the H8?

You misunderstand. It's a simple app that has been around for years, and yet this is "news" for WP. I use Android, but I WANT Widows Phone to develop. I WANT them to succeed. Competetion breeds innovation. The better WP gets, the better their competition must get. But WP is so absurdly behind the curve that it's simply laughable. WP8 is a mess. It's tediously frustating to navigate, app selection is horrible (and stunted if the app actually is available), and everything that 8.1 adds is stuff that has been around in other platforms for years.

I don't hate Windows Phone. But I definitely laugh at those who staunchly defend it.
