The world's first 10GB of RAM phone may not be coming after all
Currently, 8GB is the most amount of RAM that can be found within a smartphone, putting the relatively small devices on par with certain laptops. But recently, a new variant of the Oppo Find X with a whopping 10GB of RAM was certified in China.

This certification suggested Oppo’s device would become the first commercially available smartphone to ship with 10GB of RAM. However, according to reliable tipster Ice Universe, the new model, which was also set to include 256GB of internal storage, will not be released.

Presently, it remains unclear why Oppo has gone to the effort of certifying the device in China considering it has no plans to release it. But perhaps the company realized that there wasn’t sufficient demand for such a model and ultimately chose to cancel the release just before its announcement. Regardless, the usefulness of such a device remains unclear. After all, many consumers already consider 8GB of RAM to be excessive, so the performance gains on a 10GB of RAM smartphone are presumably only minimal.

Even though Oppo will not be releasing its device, the fact that it took the time to develop one would suggest that 10GB of RAM smartphones will certainly become a thing in the future. However, it seems Oppo won’t be the first to take the leap.
