The power of the 1% over mobile devices (expandable memory and removable batteries)

If there is anything that we try to do consistently, it is to point out that personal opinion does not equal one side of a right/wrong argument. There is a growing trend of manufacturers not including SD card slots or...

I don't think you'll have a choice in the matter as your preferences are unlikely to dictate what products are on the market. If 99% of consumers have no need or want for removable batteries or SD cards, the manufacturers might as well save the time and money required to engineer these things into their devices. They could then spend more time making their software better.

Also, I'm glad that the Sprint version of the One X is rumored to have a kickstand and an SD card slot. Go Sprint. Using my upgrade for that.

Cloud storage isn't ideal for those are on limited data plans or don't have good reception. With an SD card data isn't an issue to access your own stuff.

As far as batteries go if the battery is large enough I don't mind it being non removeable as much.

I however still like being able to just slap in a fully charged battery.

Reasons why removeable batteries are good : 1) The 2 batteries for the power users. 2) If the battery goes bad, just get a new battery, instead of a new phone

Reasons why micro sd is good : 1) Easy to move pictures/music, etc. from phone to phone 2) Putting micro sd into an adapter for places like Photo labs to print off your pictures 3) Cloud storage tech is still in its infancy, and thus shouldnt be solely relied on.

sd Cards are very much needed...... when i have to format my phone or transfer a data in order to free up, i backup it to sd card ..............compared to apple where i have to mostly rely on the computer which is a shame

and with xc and other high speed cards coming as the next gen future storage solutions we should give it a good platform to begin with

one should open up his eyes and agree that NOT everywhere cloud is possible. even today in developed countries with all modern equipments

Although I know SD cards are really convenient, I think they can cause issues with the phone. Idk for sure, but I have had annoying issues with my phone due to how it started reading its SD card. The music skips, the phone gets slow, and sometimes freezes due to the card. it never acted crazy when I unmounted the card, so I'm assuming it was an SD problem. It may not have been the card though, can't say for sure. I prefer to have the option of external storage, but sometimes it can be a bitch. I'm all for removable batteries though.

The cloud definitely makes sense in countries and markets where the internet is fast, and relatively cheap. But in many countries where smartphones are used the Internet is still relatively slow (telco's might say they support 7.2/21.xMbps, etc, but the actual speeds are far more like 2-3Mbps at most and that too with fluctuations), and very expensive, specially due to the taxes governements sometimes apply to telecom bills.

Hence the cloud is not going to be the option for all, and that market with slow internet and high cost is still fairly high, and the volumes of people who can't pay high internet bills is also very high. So things like SD cards still make sense in these markets, specially since it also give them the quick and easy way to transfer files from their phones/tablets to other devices such as PCs/laptops.
