The nominees for the 2017 Google Play Awards were announced today

The Google Play Awards are meant to promote and celebrate good game and app developers that created outstanding products for the Android system throughout the year. This year, the awards will take place Thursday, May 18 at 6:30pm PST, during Google I/O, Big G's annual developer festival.

A few weeks ahead of time, though, we get a glimpse at the categories and the nominees that Google employees hand-picked. There are twelve categories this year, with between three and five nominees each. You can find a full list below, and you can check out the games and apps themselves if you follow the source link at the end of this piece.

For me, Final Fantasy Record Keeper. Best mobile game I have ever played. Should be in the list.

With the post on here a few days ago about the most used apps on Android and iOS. I was trying to figure out if these were apps created in 2017 but it's not so what is the 'rubric' for deciding what App gets a nominee? Asking some random Google nerds in the office? "Hey nerd, what apps do you like on the Playstore!?"

Discord, like Telegram, have completely replaced Skype for me. The only reason I still use that hot garbage is because of how prolific its users are, I'm still more likely to run into people at work with Skype than with Telegram.
