The new Moto Z Stereo Speaker mod sounds good, costs less

Motorola has released a new speaker mod attachment for the Moto Z and Moto Z2, named plain and aptly the Stereo Speaker. It simply snaps right onto the back of your Moto Z phone and relieves you of the burden of carrying a wireless speaker around.

The Moto Stereo Speaker is not the first of its kind, but it's the cheapest. The previous two speaker mods, the JBL SoundBoost 2 and the Amazon Alexa speaker, launched for $79.99 and $149.99 respectively, while the new Stereo Speaker costs $59.99. Speaking of the other two, both are currently discounted down to $59.99 for the JBL mod and $112.49 for the Alexa speaker.

Unlike JBL SoundBoost models, the new stereo speaker mod doesn't have a built-in battery, which means it draws power from your phone, but it also doesn't need to be charged. It's also lighter and has a round kickstand that nicely props the phone up when you want to enjoy some tunes.

If you own a Moto Z phone, the stereo speaker mod delivers good sound quality at a lower price point than previous products from the same line, but since the JBL SoundBoost is on sale right now, picking one is a matter of priorities.

If you want a lighter device that doesn't need charging, but offers similar audio performance to the more expensive ones, then the new stereo speaker mod may be the one for you. If you want a speaker that works without draining your phone's battery, the JBL SoundBoost currently offers 10 hours of continuous music playback and premium build quality at the same price.

The Moto Stereo Speaker is available now in Motorola's online store for $59.99, but it can also be financed through Affirm for $10 per month. It comes in three colors – red, blue, and black.
