The name of Samsung's foldable smartphone was just revealed by a tipster

Since then, this moniker has evolved slightly with some reports referring to the device as the Galaxy Fold while others listed the smartphone as the Galaxy Flex – this name first appears after Samsung announced its Infinity Flex display. Thankfully, tipster Evan Blass has now shed some light on the matter by suggesting that the company’s first foldable smartphone will indeed be marketed as the Samsung Galaxy Fold when it launches later this year.

Since day one, expectations for the Galaxy Fold have been rather high with almost every recent rumor pointing towards a 7.3-inch flexible display that can be folded into a more manageable 4.8-inch variant. As suggested by a recent patent and Samsung’s own Galaxy Fold teaser, though, this may not be the case.

Rather than fitting the Galaxy Fold with an Infinity Flex panel, it seems as though the smartphone will consist of two AMOLED displays complete with curved edges stuck together, similar in a way to the design of ZTE’s Axon M which debuted back in 2017. This external setup will allegedly be paired with a triple-camera setup on the rear.

Internally, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 is to be expected alongside 1TB of storage and a whopping 12GB of RAM. Android 9 Pie coupled with the One UI custom overlay should be present too. It does, however, remain to be seen if the Galaxy Fold will support 5G.

Samsung’s first foldable smartphone will most likely be teased once again tomorrow at the company’s Unpacked event. Unfortunately, a complete unveiling of the smartphone isn’t expected to take place until later on this year.
