To be honest, I think HTC has half (or even more) of the challenge complete, which is the physical design of the phone. All they really need to focus on are the "internals." Like apple (or porsche for that matter), they slowly and incrementally change the physical design yet they have substantial updates to the internals. For instance, Porsche did not change the physical design of their cars for 40 years – the design aerodynamically worked, and no other car could compete with its aesthetic. Yet every year you would see more Horse power, more torque, new technology, etc. Apple changes the design of the macbooks and imacs every 4 years, and they change the design of the iphone every 2 years, yet the internals are changed every year. For HTC to survive, all they really need to do is have a strong camera, processor, and battery, and they will surely stay afloat against their competitors. To HTC: I understand that you're trying to ride the design of the phone as long as possible, that's a pure business strategy, but please take some valuable and smart risks with the internals of your phone, it will keep your current user base!

What? 4 MP camera again and only 16 GB internal memory after 32 GB in 2013??? This will be the HTC One 0...
But HTC M8 with at least 8 MP camera, 5"-5,2", Snapdragon 805/900: best buy

makes absolutely no sense to bump specs beyond s800 and 4.7".
better camera, thinner profile, edge to edge display and larger battery is what's needed.

What's wrong with the camera? I have HTC one and picture quality is not that bad at all. It's a matter of personal preference, if you want a good camera smartphone then buy the Lumia series or the Samsung note 3. Maybe HTC have their own reasons why they will still keep the same 4mp on their One series, just like Sony they still use the same TFT LCD on their screens. I'm sick of these people who keep on complaining. Buy a phone that fits your needs and style and shut up. If it won't fit your needs then don't buy it.

It will be named HTC One + and not One 2 ;)
BTW: Put an external SD be it removable back cover or not, but an external SD is a must coz transferring 20 GB of videos with Media Transfer and not Mass Storage takes years :(
Be it 4 UP or 13MP, an external SD is a must. This or if no micro Sd slot, Sony Xperia Z1 for me!
No Samsung,I won't support your useless Tizen ugly :)

The phone isn't even out, yet the rumors have the phone itself looking very outdated.

I picked up my htc one two weeks ago for the cheap. I agree with almost everyone the camera needs to be upgraded the ultrapixel to double or triple what they have now, or use songs 21mp in the experia z1. The good thing about lower MP is the time to process pics is much faster and can take many pics in a row. A12 ultrapixel would be great IMO. But I did play with Sonys x1 camera and it was fantastic. The problem I had using nokias 41mp camera was how long it took to process and the high mp camera phones come out to 8mp on the standard settings. a fast 800 processor with 3gb of ram might make this a problem moot. Samsung has finally learned that aluminum is the future for flagship phones, htc has to step up more then just a little spec bump. I think they also need to figure out a way to get a bigger battery in there. The g2 and rumored s5 would kill the htc one 2 in that category which is a big factor to many. The one 2 will still outshine the competitors with the front speakers and standard 32gb flash which I am enjoying more and more everyday and the one thing I have been commented on by people is the quality of the speakers. I haven't seen sense 5.5 and maybe sense 6 will be out but the 2 but here is my wish list for sense..the option to increase apps in the dock , option for sense camera app to use volume rockers for shutter , add another bottom button and the option to change all thee buttons like the g2. App drawer in landscape mode, option to change icons for apps on home screen and add more options in settings like the g2 has. With such a fast processor and ability to playback hd and possibly 4k, I think it would be very cool for phones to start putting in projectors. This could be used for other applications like a heads up display for gps.

"but we would not really count a 1080p screen as a huge downside. Most studies confirm that the average person won't even notice the difference between a QHD and 1080p smartphones" i need to hear the same from you phonearena when you review s5 vs htc one (ii) .

Victor H.,
1. Do you think there's any possibility of M8 having SD Card?
2. If no SD Card, how about > 32GB of embedded flash (e.g. 64GB)?

Nevermind -- I saw sections 13 and 14 of the story: Only 16 gb flash and so there's hope for SD Card?

"Last year, HTC was the only Android phone maker to ship a top-shelf device made of aluminum"

ASUS PadFone Infinity 2013. Similar design with only Aluminum, better 13 MP camera, microSD card slot and optional tablet station....

In my opinion that was the best designed smartphone of 2013... I only disliked the size which is now standard...

Do people here skip the articles and just go straight to the images?

The article states - quite clearly - that rumours point at the HTC One 2 could be using the recently revealed Toshiba 5MP twin-sensor array which outputs 13MP images.

In other words;

Even if HTC use their 2 µm 4MP sensors in the Toshiba array, they'd end up with 8-10MP output images. On top of that, using twin sensors would make for higher quality, reduced noise, 3D imaging and every other advantage that a camera array can offer.

That being said, everything is just very loose rumours so far, so take everything with huge grains of salt until the actual unveiling.

The camera is what i complained the One about and i always kept complaining because i hope HTC will improve it to at least 8mp but i honestly don't like dual camera at all. It looks more ugly to me. Maybe a lot of users may like it but this is just my idea and feeling. hope HTC One Two Three will have 13mp or 16mp instead of dual camera

I am going to buy the HTC One M7 which will become the only phone with full metal body. the M8 will use the plastic back cover as the One Max for sure.

I guess HTC M7 is not making profit, just made a name. any one with little bit manufacturing experience would understand the cost of machining out a Alum body comparing to a moded plastic one.

I'm so sick of ignorant people seriously. lol
the Htc camera is 4mp with ULTRAPixel sensor. It set the new standard. When HTC will get to 13mp with ultrapixel sensor it will sh!7 on Samsung's 13 MP. It captures more light, better OIS, more pixels etc.,
Now HTC One's is better than Samsung's 13MP IF USED PROPERLY.
I hear a lot of people saying omg Htc's came sukz but they dont even know how to play with the auto light focus touch, which is what allows HTC's camera to take better pictures than Galaxy S4.

And thats all about its only "minus". It is actually not a minus if you think about it, but when people hear 4-13 MP they automatically say omg thats so bad but they dont pay attention to how important and crucial their new technology is, UltraPixels.
Uh oh...

I hope the next One has louder speakers. Even though they are crisp and clear, if they aren't loud enough (which they aren't compared to even the S3), and you can't hear them, then they are useless.
