The Samsung Gear S2 Classic 3G launches today on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon
Samsung's 3G-capable Gear S2 Classic, a traditional-looking smartwatch that can handle data transfer in the absence of a connected smartphone, launches today in the US. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile will all support the device on their wireless networks.

AT&T and Verizon started accepting pre-orders for the a few weeks ago. AT&T is pricing the 3G Samsung Gear S2 Classic at $250 with a 2-year service agreement, while Verizon has the wearable on sale at $350 on a 2-year contract or $400 outright. T-Mobile has yet to announce its pricing details.

As the name suggests, the Samsung Gear S2 Classic was designed to imitate the look of a traditional analog wrist watch. Verizon and AT&T both sell the 3G variant with a black stainless steel body and a genuine leather band. Fortunately, you can customize the wrist piece using any standard 20mm watch band.

The wearable offers a 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED display running at 360 by 360 pixels at a density of 302 PPI. Since this is a Gear S2 smartwatch, navigation on the Classic is handled through Samsung's unique rotating bezel.

On the software side, the Gear S2 Classic runs Samsung's own Tizen OS. However, aside from being fully compatible with Samsung's own Galaxy smartphones, the watch is also capable of syncing up with Android smartphones running Android 4.4 KitKat and up.

Back in early January, Samsung announced that its Gear S2 smartwatches will get iPhone compatibility by the end of the year, but specific availability details are currently unavailable.

The processing power is drawn from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU and 512MB of RAM. Other highlights include 4GB of internal storage space, a waterproof build and a programmable eSIM that allows you to switch carriers without swapping a physical SIM card.
