Leaked Nokia 9 PureView press images
The Nokia 9 PureView’s introduction was first set to take place last Autumn. Then,
due to camera issues, it was delayed until MWC 2019 in February. Shortly after this, reports emerged claiming that the unveiling had been brought forward to January due to customer backlash. But now it seems as though
HMD Global, the company behind recent Nokia smartphones, may have delayed it once again.
Just moments after Juho Sarvikas, the company’s Chief Product Officer, teased new product announcements at this year’s MWC event on Twitter yesterday, one
source retweeted the message with his own comment, stating that the company had once again chosen to delay the Nokia 9 PureView’s debut until late February in Barcelona.
A few hours after this, a separate
source provided further commentary on the situation. Overall, they seemed much more skeptical about the delay but didn’t deny it. Instead, it was claimed that invitations to the
original January event were due out by this coming Wednesday, January 16. If this fails to materialize, then it’s safe to assume that the unveiling has been delayed until MWC 2019 next month.
As this is currently just a rumor, please do take the information with a pinch of salt. If the delay has indeed happened though, it’ll remain to be seen how the Nokia 9 PureView fairs against the competition. After all, an unveiling in January would allow for a period of total press attention, whereas an announcement in February will see it fight off the
Sony Xperia XZ4, multiple mid-rangers, and potentially
the LG G8 ThinQ for the limelight.
