The LG G6 will officially use the Snapdragon 821 instead of the 835, and it's a brilliant move

Although the possibility of the LG G6 featuring a Snapdragon 835 processor was already quite slim, it's now officially confirmed that it'll be powered by the slightly less powerful Snapdragon 821...

Yeah when they called it a “brilliant move” in the title I was hoping for a better reason that the simple fact that they can release it sooner. Lower price would be such a reason. Maybe it will end up being a good phone, who knows?

Well it it has the new QHD+ display, with waterproofing, updated dual cameras. Newer sensors for Daydream VR, IR blaster, maybe wireless charging this time. Then I don't see this smartphone starting at $400. The OnePlus 3T only has a 1080p display, and no Daydream VR.

No daydream support. It's an LCD display and it's not OnePlus so $650 or above a d SD835 will start from $750 and will goes up to $1000

Show me a link where it proves that this new QHD+ display is IPS LCD display.

Also LG's new G6 QHD+ display is low persistent, so can support a high refresh rate, which is needed for Daydream VR.

In order for the G6 to come out on top it would have to make up for the lack of the latest processor with some other important area for consumers. That would pretty much leave just the camera and screen as areas where they could upstage Samsung. I just don't see them introducing a camera that is going to blow the socks off the competition. And while LG makes the best OLED TV on the market right now, they haven't translated that over to their mobile phones yet. This is not turning out to be a great year for LG or HTC. Surprisingly it looks like Nokia and Blackberry may be making a strong return.

oled on lg tv is woking likes lcd. It's need color filter (only have white oled diot backlight pixel). No true OLED

It's true OLED with additional white sub-pixel.

The difference is that each subpixel has its own OLED backlight pixel. Even an LCD with FALD still has many subpixels being backlit by the same light. That means if you have one pixel that is supposed to be bright near a pixel that is supposed to be black the over that is supposed to be black will seem grayish and a large bright object on the screen surrounded by darkness (like the moon) will have a halo effect. Since LG OLED TVs have a white OLED for each subpixel that allows each subpixel to be turned on and off independently. You get true blacks and none of the other side effects of a whole screen backlight. As an owner of a LG OLED I can say from experience that it's better than any LCD I have ever seen.

If it's priced affordably, then sells good, why would it be a fail? IRL there is a minute difference between 820 and 835.

Hoping for ~549 launch price.

400?? You are such a Samsung sheep again this phone its everything needed in this market. Samsung and iphone same crap every year. Doesn't matter what chip the s8 have the phone still going to lag like the s7 s6 s5 note 7 note 5 etc

What is this "lag" your speak of?

That would be a huge cut of LG's profit. No way would LG do that. It's not like LG is saving a huge amount of money by using last year's top end processor. The 821 is around $60. Even if LG could get 50% off because it's old (which is unlikely) that's still only a savings of $30. No way would it be $400.

G6 is missing new image processing, new DAC, more powerful and power-efficient processor, faster GPU, faster X16 modem (LTE cat.13/16), quick charge 4.0 and other features.. "brilliant move" indeed..

Everyone keeps forgetting Bluetooth 5.0. 4x the distance, 4 times lower power, 4x more bandwidth.

Why I don't care: New Image Processing - my GS7 (SD820) is plenty fast New DAC - dont care I only use Bluetooth CPU/GPU - doubt speed difference will be noticeable. See reason 1. Modem - Makes no difference here in the USA Quick Charge 4 - meh quick charge 3 is already hella fast Hopefully it will be cheap enough to compete with the mighty Samsung.

The wifi/bluetooth chip 4 times lower in consumption. that is the only real benefit from 835. other things only minor to give it a new name

If the whole world thought like you, we'd make no advancements. There would be no Moore's Law. Call me crazy but I think waiting a month or two to add a year's worth of processing improvements makes sense.

It wouldn't be just a month or two. LG would have to just not release a flagship phone this year.

Only enthusiast super fanboys care about the processor, RAM, and LTE modem speed. Every customer I've ever sold a phone to has ignored such specs. They're more interested in battery life, camera, size, design, and sometimes durability. LG choosing to stick with the SD821 won't affect sales.

Yes Bluetooth 5. It is very useful if you have a Bluetooth 5 enabled smartwatch.

The SD 821 was first introduced with the Pixel smartphones that came out in November 2016. That SoC is still a very fast SoC, especially when you look at Daydream VR which can sustain 60 fps using a QHD display. So busbunny there is no problem with using the SD 821.

Yet people will complain, as usual, lots of idiots here who only care about specs.
