The Huawei P20 Pro just won a big photography award
Huawei’s P20 Pro has been given a photography award by the Technical Image Press Association, also known as TIPA. Huawei certainly raised eyebrows with the launch of its latest triple camera-boasting flagship which immediately dethroned the Galaxy S9+ upon launch to take the crown of best smartphone camera according to DxOMark. Now, continuing to impress, the P20 Pro’s camera has once again been honored, this time with the 2018 Best Photo Smartphone award by TIPA.

Winning the award is a huge achievement for Huawei. After all, TIPA is a non-profit organization that partners up with 30 major photo and image publications on an annual basis, giving them the chance to vote for the best camera in a number of categories that rate the likes traditional DSLR cameras and other more unique concepts such as drone cameras and 360º cameras. In regards to Huawei's win, the unique triple camera setup that boasts both a monochrome and telephoto lens appears to have ultimately been the deciding factor, giving it the edge over competing devices that usually offer just one extra sensor.

Smartphone camera awards are often seen as controversial accolades due to the fact that they can’t necessarily value a smartphone’s camera according to the needs of every consumer. Nonetheless, they are certainly a good indication of how good the sensors in question are and, considering Huawei’s latest flagship is receiving consistent praise lately, it’s clear that the smartphone undeniably boasts one of the bests cameras on the market.

The decision to include the triple-camera layout was part of Huawei’s new promise to be bolder when it comes to taking future decisions. After all, the company recently stated that it had originally researched notched displays around four years ago but ultimately scrapped the idea for fear of consumer backlash. Moving forward, though, the company is adamant that similar mistakes will not happen, with it even introducing the new “Twilight” color option in the hope of pushing design boundaries.

Huawei has high hopes for its latest lineup when it comes to sales, mentioning that it has set an internal goal of 20 million P20 combined unit shipments in 2018. If recent sales in China are anything to go by, it appears the devices are off to a great start, with the company selling $15 million worth of P20 and P20 Pro units in just 10 seconds.
