Now that Google’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have been announced, we can once again switch our focus over to the Huawei Mate 20 series. These devices have leaked multiple times already and, with just one week to go before the event, reliable tipster Evan Blass has joined in by leaking a render of the upcoming Pro model.
Overall, it’s fair to say that the image is simply more of the same. The render once again shows off a device complete with a large 6.3-inch OLED display that boasts curved edges on either side, a design characteristic usually associated with Samsung’s premium offerings. Beneath this, as confirmed by the logo on the screen, will be a new in-display fingerprint reader which will replace the usual rear-facing solution. However, the accuracy of this will remain to be seen. Elsewhere up front is a relatively small chin and a wide notch which is now home to a Face ID-like tech.
Over on the rear, a glass finish complete with the P20 Pro-like Twilight gradient option is included. Unlike the aforementioned device, however, the Mate 20 Pro includes a new square-shaped camera module in the rear. This is home to a 40-megapixel main sensor and allegedly a second sensor complete with a wide-angle lens. However, there are conflicting rumors regarding the third camera. After all, some rumors claim there will be a telephoto offering, while others mention the return of a monochrome sensor.
Regardless of the camera situation, the Kirin 980 has already been confirmed. Similarly, recent certification listings revealed a variety of storage configurations which ranged from 4GB and 128GB of storage to a whopping 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
As mentioned multiple times before, the Mate 20 Pro will go official next Tuesday alongside the regular model and the game-centric Mate 20X. Pre-orders will presumably commence shortly after followed by shipments at the end of the month.
