HTC U12+ appears in renders confirming official colors, specs also revealed
The HTC U12+ has leaked out in new press renders alongside its official specifications. The Taiwan-based company’s next flagship is currently set to be unveiled in just under a week, on May 23. However, thanks to notorious leaker Evan Blass, official press renders of the device have appeared alongside a detailed spec sheet.

Looking at the smartphone, it’s clear HTC has chosen to implement only minimal changes, with the new device bearing a striking resemblance to last year’s HTC U11+. This means the tall 6-inch LCD display panel will be making a return – albeit with slightly smaller top and bottom bezels – while the same glass build is once again present. Nevertheless, a few major differences are certainly featured.

Starting up front, a new dual 8-megapixel selfie setup has been added, allowing for wide angle images and bokeh effect. Additionally, a second unique dual-camera arrangement has also been included on the rear of the HTC U12+. As listed on the spec sheet, the main 12-megapixel camera appears to be a wide-angle lens, while the second sensor is a 16-megapixel telephoto sensor. Together, these allow for up to 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom and are also capable of producing bokeh photos. Furthermore, in order to improve low-light images, a dual-tone LED flash accompanies the cameras, while the whole setup is coupled with phase detection and laser autofocus. On one final exterior note, a circular fingerprint scanner is placed below the rear camera module.

Moving on to the internal specifications of the HTC U12+, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 powers the device and is coupled with 6GB of RAM and the choice of 64GB or 128GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD cards of up to 2TB. On the battery side of things, a large 3500mAh pack will be present alongside Quick Charge 3.0 support. Additionally, in regards to software, Android 8.0 Oreo will ship straight out of the box with HTC’s Sense overlay on top, although it does note that an upgrade to Android P will be released eventually. Other device details include support for an updated Edge Sense, which allows users to squeeze the device frame to access certain shortcuts, as well as IP68 water and dust-resistance and support for both the Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.

The HTC U12+ is currently expected to go on sale on June 1, with the renders revealed by Evan Blass confirming that the device will ship in Ceramic Black and a new purple color. Additionally, the unique Translucent Black option looks set to make a return.
