The Apple iPhone 6 rumored to come with 1GB of RAM aboard

0. phoneArena posted on 18 Aug 2014, 05:50

As September nears, it is more than natural that one of the hottest topics in the mobile industry right now, the upcoming Apple iPhone 6, or whatever it ends up being called in the end, is the subject to even more rumors and speculations, most of which will turn out to be false. Of course, it's impossible to know which ones actually hold water beforehand, at least until Tim Cook gets on stage and unveils Cupertino's next champion...

Hope it's not true.1GB ram is enough to run iOS smooth but for better multitasking and future proofing hardware with better specs so it can get real update rather than features ripped update and for high end games is not enough. 1GB in 2014, from any view whether it be fanboy's or tech geek's view is not enough. Hope it's at least 2GB. Even moto E and G got 1GB ram so why not this supercostly iPhone doesn't ???????

They have a TON of trackers on the PA website. I'm not surprised it's flagged as a suspicious site. They must be making a killing in advertising dollars.

Right, because there's only one troll on one side of the OS debate. Asking for a stop to the flame wars here is like asking for perpetual motion.

A lot of fakes have been coming out of China and have been “created" by altering a real item / document

NB all real iPhone leaks have mentioned both 4.7" and 5.5 inch

This is faked using most likely the IP5S document and 1GB

Also as this has be cited as a leak with NO 5.5" details to work with, faking it and getting it wrong proves it was fake, that is why ONLY the 4.7 is mentioned.

Finally all the 4.7" mid to high end phone all come with 2 GB Ram.

The 4.7" will be 1.5GB Ram minimum if it and the 5.5" are not BOTH 2GB, waht theey wont be is 1Gb

To only have just the 4.7" figure is the first time it has been leaked on own

The recent leaks e.g. Lumia 830 and Note 5 defy common sense in that both Nokia and Samsung are staging events where the press have been invited, now someone completely off the grid get the scoop

hey philip dont know if you know this but the 5.5 as of last month was put on hold to see how the bigger phone works out in sales, plus big thing here is the phones are made in china so dont you think the person that got paid for the leak would not waste jail in china time for fake news. ? not a preacher
but the real reason they dont need bigger ram they said this was only going to be bigger 5s with nfc. nothing more.

That's what they're all about at Apple, innovating new ways to milk more. What really pisses me off though, is the perpetuation by so called tech journalists that it is Apple's optimizations that allow them to use less RAM. Limiting functionality to reduce RAM usage isn't optimization. The reason iPhones can get away with less RAM is because they literally have 0 multitasking/backgrounding capabilities. Also, it helps Apple with their planned obsolescence strategy and idiots praising them for their "optimizations" only help perpetuate this anti-consumer behavior.

my god if apple had on screen widgets and multitask it would crash and flame up every few hours. big screen bigger gpu and maybe cpu from 1 or 2 core to a quad core with one bg ram and a 64bit it would take 30 to 60 sec to open an app or screen change.

It's not just because there is no multitasking. It's because virtually every benchmark and review of the iPhone does not reflect a wide range of real world usage cases.

For example, once you load up Safari with the maximum number of open tabs and have a few other apps "semi-tasking", you will find that you will have to reload some or all of your tabs in Safari because the OS is out of RAM. This can be terrible if you have a slow (or no) data connection at the time.

There are many other examples. All it takes is one big app to hog all the memory and then maximal swapping will ensue. And if you want to see how lame an iPhone is for "power users", this is one easy way to do it.

The benchmark thing is a very sad state of affairs concerning Apple and the tech media bias towards them. Pure theoretical tests like Antutu aren't allowed on iOS so far and the upcoming release version of Antutu already shows that Apple hardware is quite a bit behind its Android equivalents. The current suite of benchmarks are highly rigged towards Apple because they test things that are dependent on screen resolution where Apple will win due to a lower resolution. Tests that open webpages 10 000 times will always do better on Apple devices because the resolutions of those webpages will be far lower. Tests concerning off-screen 1080p drawing is usually give or take between the PowerVR chips and Adreno/Mali.

I've already seen many instances of app crashes on my roommates' iPad 4 due to limited RAM when playing high graphic intensive games. If this is true and with the ever expanding features in iOS 8 it will seriously hamper the reliability of the device.
