The 5-inch smartphone: is this the end of the screen size race?

Give people a phone with a 3.5-inch display in 2007 and you’d hear oohs and aahs about how big that display is. From then on, every year it’s the same story over and over again…

They will take as long as it take for them to claim, that they are first with Ultra super retina FullHD screen........ But remember when ever they do this, they will claim they are the first to do it, becoz they will make it different size like 4.98" or 5.01"......

Honestly, while I'm enjoying my GALAXY Nexus, the phone is kind of hard for me to handle due to it being so large and me having only average hand sides. I can operate it with one hand, sure, but it gets a little uncomfortable after awhile. IMO, 4.3-4.5" is the sweet spot. Not too big, but just big enough. I don't know if I can jump on the 5"+ screen for phones yet. But different strokes for different floks. I do feel kind of silly saying the GNex is too big for me and I have a lot of female friends who own the Galaxy S3 and the HTC One X and other large screen phones. LOL

I think we have reached threshold limit for screen size, 5" screen will be perfect for most people....... Now since manufacturers have reached threshold for screen size, they should try to innovate in terms of other specs, like improving Battery, optimizing software more so that it can make use of all the raw power they are having in terms of quadcore CPU, and Octocore GPU's, camera's tech should also be improved more to atleast take place of point& shoot......... I know nokia 808 has very capable camera, but they should work to reduce it size and make it more mainstream..........

It sold badly - Dell had poor service for it, but it was cool when it first came out.

I have the original Droid RAZR, for a penny, lol, and I can defintely say that its screen is too small for many things...try playing the Hobbit game on something 4'3" and smaller - maybe it is just my fingers, but it us much better on a 7inch tablet.

I really dont think screen size is an issue, physical size of the phone is. I've said on here before, my note two is big as i would be comfortable using. but if you put a 6.25 inch display in the same size body I'd make that jump. I might upload a video sometime this week to show everyone what i mean. and just a clarification, my mentioning the note 2 isnt samsung fanboyism, if all the major players had a 5.5inch+ screen i dont know if samsung wouldve been my first choice.

I am reading this article from Africa, I always believed that Apple iPhone is designed for Americans and every American should be proud of it. Android is for the whole world.

like screen calibration that has been far from perfect on most mobile devices (except Apple’s again, of course!).

I'll just say plainly that i wish the screen size game stops. Im truly still waiting on a "high end" 4.3 inch phone, and by high end i mean Quad core, HD screen, runnin the latest version of jellybean or the latest version of android, and Large battery

This article is most likely written by a iphone owner or an iphone follower. I don't think that 3.5+ is too big, if you don't like it or cannot manipulate the device correctly or to your satisfaction THEN DON'T BUY IT... It is LITERALLY the simple, for you guys on here to go on hating on larger phones is just stupid. Along with saying 1080p isn't necessary nor can it be distinguished between it and 720p is just sad. Ignorance is bliss until you speak, then you just look like an idioit. Just like saying the guy next to you at the stop light in his Ferrari with a custom paint job, custom Wheels and a big after market stereo is "stupid" or "overkill" etc. No it isn't cause you aren't driving it. Again don't hate just cause you either don't like it, can't afford it, are too stupid to operate it, too afraid your ifriends will make fun, to scared to take make a change etc. We are in a tech driven era and it is making huge strides constanly and evolving by the day. Stop hating and embrace the advancements that are being put forth. If you aren't satisfied with your little iphone then stop wishing the next one will have what you want. Cause if you cut it down and look at it on paper or even in your hands with out a distinct frame or name to it and you would be blown away at how far apple really is in the mobile world.. I could go on for ages but those saying this above article is correct, it just simply won't sink in.

I still wish there would be some successors to the Xperia Minis with good specs. Because I don't like big phones, and most new phones with great specs have huge screens.

for me 4 or 4.3" is enough.... 5" is way to big for a cell phone.. if any budy wants a big screen then he/she can get a lapyop/nettop or tablet..

if theres no bezel, you will need to increase the size to get bigger display, so u can make a 5" screen beign 5" but not 5.3 beign 5, so it has a limit
