I hope iPhone 7 Plus will have impressive camera with at least f1.8 aperture and tracking AF... now iSight camera is far behind Samsung, HTC (since m10), LG and SONY

it does, has I think 3 different modes for how to focus, locking onto part of scene is one of the things.

yes it does..why would they remove it?

Samsung can take weird decisions. Was just unsure as didn't read about it in any review. Reviewers only review stuff which is advertised I guess. They will review this in X performance like it's the first phone to have this feature LOL. I can bet on this since most reviewers are dumb.

"Samsung can take weird decisions". I hate Samsung's removal of the S4's Air Gestures!

I hate Samsung's removal of the S3's FM radio while the FM antenna is still there :(

I went from an S4 to the S7e and one thing I miss is voice control for the Alarm. I have no idea why they would remove that feature. Being able to just say "snooze" is pretty damn sweet. I miss it.

They just forgot to implement that again. Everyone makes mistakes. :D

It is a common thing in tech world to review an old feature as a totally new one. Apple is an example, most of the features in iPhone are old but reviewers review any new feature in iphone as the first and innovative.... You can look at much talk about always on display of G5 and S7. My old Nokia preview 808 from 2012 have it. I heard that Nokia N8 from 2010 also have it... So, it is not uncommon on tech sites like PA to talk about certain feature as if it is invented today...

I can confirm that the S7 has the tracking AF option hidden in the camera settings

Not exactly the same... My Z3 Compact and my wife's Z1 Compact both have Object Tracking Autofocus... but the difference here is the "Predictive" part where the software will anticipate the movement of the object in focus and will keep in focus for a few frames later... probably by extrapolating previous movements

Samsung using dual pixel image sensing is diff from pridictive auto focus by sony Dude... Dual pixel can get focus very fast than its competitors but sony pridictive autofocus continously focusing moving object....

He knows what he's talking about. It's called tracking autofocus in Samsung phones and was introduced with S6. Dual pixel is different though.

you missed it .. no offence bro .. but he is talking about the tracking autofocus feature (launched with S6) .. and not the dual pixel technique used for autofocus (launched with S7) .. here is a thing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siinPydk1SE&ab_channel=SamsungIndonesia Watch at 01:16

Reminds me of how innovative the S6 was. So many 'first in a smartphone'

As well as the S5, which was first with PDAF.

S5 was an amazing phone only let down by the extremely low quality chassis.

object tracking af isnt something new.all z(z to z5) series have object tracking focus , calling s6 is innovative for this feature is absurd. support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz/userguide/Using-still-camera-settings/ but the difference sony new tracking focus isnt that simple.it's called predictive autofocus , so it predicts object where it's moving to before. youtube.com/watch?v=Q17c8DeY3L8

calling s6 is innovative for this feature is absurd. Did I? Read my comment before replying. I said s6 was innovative because of so many 'first in a smartphone' Just watch the video, will you. I don't even use tracking autofocus.

No it's different as it not only tracks the subject, it also predicts the movement. Anyways, it's a gimmick in my opinion and I hope that they have focussed on image quality instead.

23. tyrionTheWise unregistered

I don't think predicting would do much since shutter speed is usually within 1/100 of a second, and in that time the subject wouldn't move much, if at all. It's pretty cool though. I guess they used a cubic spline for that. I would rather love a full featured manual mode with RAW capture. It really helps. 5 min of processing in lightroom makes the auto mode jpg look like garbage.

All z series had object tracking mode. This is just an enhanced upgrade to improve the old one

tracking AF has been on smartphone since forever, but the new Xperia X lineup has something Sony called "predictive AF", which supposed to help predict where the subject is going to move (further or closer to the lens) - which is something that has never been seen on any phone

Nope. This is a Technology invented by NOKIA. First used in 808 pureview. The camera tracks objects, predicts where they will be next and creates a copy of the objects to where it predicts it will be next. Its still about the best camera on a phone. Nokia was frigin innovative at its best. First touch schreen prototype phones around 2003. First to use lansdcape orientation in os. First to Support Flash in browser. And the list goes on and on.
