Always free with no ads? How is this thing funded and by whom exactly???? Sounds a little weird to me if this doesn't generate even the smallest amount of revenue.

It's built by 2 russian entrepreneurs who also developed vkontakte. Maybe they use the money they made with that social site, just guessing:P. Hopefully there are still some good guys in the world.

Mabe they use funds from FSB (russian nsa)... and if not, for how long they think that will take them to give away those $200K?

I agree it looks like Whatsapp, but a lot cleaner and better for group chats imo. I've been using it for 6 months or so and its far from perfect, but works very well for the purpose of group chats (we had some people without unlimited texts so needed a simple yet secure messenging service that everyone could use). Whatsapp is still better if looking for something more than basic chatting.

Telegram looks and it's just a secure chat app. However I use another messenger called Sicher - quite simple, totally secure and absolutely free, found at sicherapp.com.
