TI samples 3G solution developed together with NTT DoCoMo

Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) announced that together with NTT DoCoMo have developed a UMTS chipset, designed for the world 3G handset market. The new OMAPV2230 solution is based on both GSM/GPRS (EDGE) and WCDMA (HSDPA), and includes complete multimedia features. It takes advantage of the latest advancements of TI's high-performance OMAP2 architecture and will provide the latest in 3G mobile entertainment applications, such as video at VGA 30 frames per second, up to 5-megapixel camera, interactive 3D gaming, digital camcorders and mobile TV. Although OMAPV2230 solution is packed with advanced features, it could lower the cost of handsets as a TI's vice president suggested. Handsets based on the OMAPV2230 solution are currently being developed and are expected to be commercially available in 2006.
