Sprint cuts 800 customer service jobs in light of iDEN shutdown and SoftBank, Clearwire deals

Sprint has announced that it is cutting 800 jobs in the customer service department; the nation's third largest carrier says that customer complaints have dropped while more customers are satisfied requiring the carrier to keep fewer customer service positions filled. In addition, Sprint chopped 1.05 million members off its rolls when it closed the Nextel PTT iDEN network in June.

What's it have to do with Dish? If Dish had purchased Sprint there would have been much more downsizing because they would have combined dish/sprint customer reps, and Dish is a big fan of outsourcing care overseas as well.

Dish ran up the Clearwire bid without any realistic chance of buying the company, which effectively transferred funds from Sprint's coffers to the other stakeholders (Google, Intel, etc). Corporate budgets tend to be a zero-sum game, and the real losers are those employees.

Everyone know this was coming sense Nextel being shut down. Sprint will not need or waste money on something that doesn't exist anymore.

Dish it trying to get into something they shouldn't get into like many other company's are trying to do as 1 place to shop for all. It sucks when companies like Walmart provide wireless service too, in reality that they don't do wireless service. Now Amazon, Google, and others are trying to do the samething? Dish should have never got involve.

As long as they don't cut any tech support staff, then I am good. so many times I have had to wait on hold with dealing with company phone issues.

I find it hard to believe that customer complaints have dropped, in light of Sprint's Network Vision overhaul. Everyone I know has been having horrible issues with dropped calls and data network disconnection for the last six months. Sprint is bleeding customers right now, and this just sounds like a squeeze in reaction to capital shortfalls.
