Sprint Nextel to purchase Alamosa Holdings

Sprint Nextel announced an agreement with Alamosa Holdings to acquire it for approximately $4.3 billion, including the assumption of approximately $900 million of net debt. Alamosa Holdings, which is the largest Sprint affiliate based on the number of the direct wireless subscribers (approximately 1.48 million), provides Sprint PCS services in 19 states. The deal is expected to resolve pending litigation that also involves AirGate PCS.  The acquisition, which is still subject to the approval of Alamosa shareholders and US regulatory approvals, is expected to be completed n the first quarter of 2006.
