I see we still get no love from SONY here in the U.S. how are they going to compete against SAMSUNG/APPLE when they are in every country/carrier? Guess We won't get the Z1 here in the states

Yeah I don't think we will. Just want to know what they mean by "gradually". I don't think they are ready to go toe to toe with Grapple and Plastisung yet. They especially suck at advertising. I bet a lot people will see Sony's greatness if only they knew.

I would buy the Z1 day one if it came out here for more then just Tmo. If Verizon got it, I would not be buying the note3 right now.

US can't afford Sony products anyway because of the government shutdown.

Luckily most Americans are not effected by the shut down anyway.

Awww Sony don't disappoint me. I've been a big fan since the walkman. I don't like waiting either. I have a PS3, Sony Xperia Z(HK), and was planning on buying the Multi-Flip PC(IFA 2013). You just love disappointing me and here I was clinging on for hope. What happened to "make believe".

People, I'm pretty sure that Hirai is more eager than you to open up in the States. Do you think he doesn't want to expand sales? If he doesn't do it, there must be a good reason behind it. It's definitely not because he's ignoring American people, don't take it personally. :-))
Most likely, he wants to expand when he makes sure that the investment will definitely bring back profit.

I couldn't agree more. Let's take care of the two much smaller markets and leave two of the largest out for now... oh but we project that we will take third place on android.

Which is sad. They give us the crap phones and the rest of the world the good ones. I like the new line but good luck getting them at a price that makes sense

Sony is actually being smart. China is a market where Samsung, Xiaomi, mid range and low range players dominate and Sony doesn't fit that.

And the US is well, the US. Any country where the jury can award Apple a billion dollars for round edges and prior art is a market I want no part of either. The people are too retarded to gamble on. They think HTC makes perfectly build products when that is far from the truth.

If I was Samsung I would pull out too, especially after how Obama showed how bias they are. It's tough to compete fairly in the US.

For some reason, they've been focusing on India too. The Z1 got released real quick.
Not just that, they have some specific apps say, the Sony live and stuff like (I never use it but well some might).

Sony has been a big player in India since the old century phones, audio systems and walkman. Haven't been to India in a while, but they are probably on par with Nokia?

Sony is the third largest smartphone vendor in India behind Samsung and micromax

So Nokia doesn't even compare huh? I though they be up there since they keep advertising them in movies like Chennai Express and Yeh Dewani Hai Jawani. I guess not.

Samsung kills off another company making quality android phones is what the article is saying. In the USA, there will be Samsung, and the cheap knock offs from ZTE and Huawei by 2015.

Plastisung doesn't have such potential to kill Sony. Sony is just backing off for now because they don't see profit in this place because everyone is fan crazy over Grapple/Plastisung. People just don't understand what a quality/premium product is. Sony defines performance and quality.

Sony knows that the waterproofing, 20mp camera and glass design is not enough to crush "plastisung" or "grapple". You can find some unknown chinese OEMs may have better design or build material than Sony, yet that does not make a phone premium.

Both Apple and Samsung stomping on Sony for years now, what do u mean by no such potential to kill Sony? Infact they just started to make profits since they were losing so much in the past.

Sony smartphones have history of poor after sales support, reliability issues, poor battery life, unstable firmware and etc. Sony defines performance and quality? Like how many smartphones of theirs have you owned? Maximum 3?

Stop whining out of your old memories. I have used wide range of Sony products in the past. I liked their walkmans, playstations, midi hi-fis, TVs and etc. That does not mean that they make the best in everything. I rather have Pioneer or JVC in my car than Sony anytime.

It falls down to opinion I suppose. I've never encountered a problem using Sony products, been using them forever as well as Plastisung and Grapple. I never said Sony would crush these companies, I said they couldn't kill Sony.

Sony wasn't all into the smartphone business to begin with, they were after the gaming market. So don't say "they were losing so much in the past". Its just that they didn't care. They were much more focused on their home turf.

I admit they have poor Advertisements, but they don't have problems with reliability or firmware. It seems you just use their products recklessly. Sony makes product that are long-lasting, based on quality and performance. Sure you have to pay the price for it. In no way are they knock off like the stuff Plastisung makes, nor Apple(whose dependent on hardware from others).

You need to relearn what premium means. Sure they aren't the best in everything, because you can only focus on so much at a time. But when they put out a product, they know there are no faults with it. Unlike Apple who is having problems with iOS 7 because they can't get it right.

P.S. I have a Sony in both my cars. :D

No offence, but I have to say that you must be a very delusional fanboy because you can come to an extend of saying others that who experienced problems with their devices must be reckless. Claiming having Sony audio in both of your cars further proves my point above.

Knock off like Samsung? You must have not realised that they make most of their parts in their devices, unlike Sony is depending on other OEMs to make most of their parts.

Apple has their own strength, which is the OS. Just because they are experiencing hiccups on their ios7 doesn't not mean that they are bad with OS. If you leave your fanboyism aside you may realise that Apple has taken a leap where even Google envies.

Like Samsung, Sony's main revenue before was on LCD panels not gaming. They were already losing to Samsung who excels better in reliability and technology in their own turf until the point where Samsung almost acquired Sony's stake.

If you have done your research well its rather a shame that plastisung proving higher reliability rate than Sony. No doubt Apple has the highest rating of all and that's mainly because they only have flagship devices.

It's kinda shame actually with all that premium materials Sony put into their devices not proving their superiority. They made few good devices recently but that is not enough to lure any average users. Just too soon...

It seems pointless to argue. You have your own likes and dislikes. I have my own. I will still stick to my first reply post. No company is going to die off because of another. Both companies have their respective fields where they excel.

As far as I know, they tend to release more phones in the US compared to Europe, at least as of now.
I guess that will be changing then?
