Sony may have just cancelled its rumored Xperia Z5 Tablet lineup

For those who don’t know, the larger Xperia Z5 Tablet was expected to boast a10-inch display while the Z5c Tablet would have featured a smaller 8-inch panel. Additionally, considering Sony's previous Tablet launches, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 and 845 were the most likely processor candidates. Nevertheless, despite their flagship internals, weaker-than-expected sales of the Xperia XZ2 smartphone lineup reportedly led Sony to cancel the tablet series altogether in the hope of focusing on its smartphone line.

Recently, Sony announced plans for its mobile unit to become a profitable business by 2020, with the brand confirming that it would streamline its product portfolio. Additionally, though, it’s worth pointing out that the tablet market has become extremely saturated in recent years, with Apple’s iPad line largely dominating sales – Sony’s tablet line is expected to sit at the higher end of the pricing segment, suggesting it would also face tough competition from Samsung. Not only this but the tablet market as a whole has seen a significant drop in consumer interest in recent times, suggesting the decision to cancel any planned launches may have been the right call.
