Sony claims the Z3 is the best cameraphone among leading smartphones, here's why

Sony's affinity for attaching a "Best" tag on its smartphones has a track record that now spans several generations. Indeed, whenever a new Sony device hits the market, there's at least one category in which the company sees it as best on the market, and it makes sure that you're well aware of that -- usually through PRs and its own website. Almost exactly a year ago, we detailed why it considered the Xperia Z1 to be the best cameraphone in the whole wide world, and now it's time to take a look at the new and hot Xperia Z3...

Photo set-ups say surprisingly little about the results the everyday user will be able to produce. No motion, perfect lighting, tripod mounted, no zoom, no cropping, etc. Steve is a VERY objective reviewer with a firm grasp of the art of snapping a picture. In addition to Windows Phones he owns and cherishes a number of Android devices. To top it off, he clearly explains the reasoning behind every photo and why he ranks them the way he does. The fellows at gsmarena tackle cameras the scientific way; interesting from a technical point of view but basically useless to ordinary people, both in terms of explaining the subject and in regards to how the users will ultimately use their device...

You know why most photography site is using scientific way? Because that's the only way you can do fair comparison. There is too many things that can cause errors if you take photos in random places. The best way to do the comparison is, by giving the same treatment to every phones and do the comparison in a controlled place to minimize errors or disruptions that may occur. We all have different ways of how to use the camera. For example in this low light comparison between Z2 vs iPhone 5s and 1520. At first with auto setting and exposure time/shutter speed under 1s the Z2 perform better than the other but after manually set the shutter speed to 2s and ISO 4000 the 1520 get better result than the Z2. In real life situation some people will just take quick snap and hope for the best but the other one will manually tweaks the camera for the best result.

I have been using this phone for a couple days and the camera is AMAZING!...Better than my previous galaxy S5 in terms of features and overall picture...the S5 is sharper, but overall the Z3 looks better, especially in low light

All the biggest sensors, highest numbered module models and megapixels in the world can't save Sony from it's poor software and image algorithm processing.

Pretty much sums it up. I'll add the surprising lack of physical OIS in a phone that's actively touting it's camera...

Please Sony, how can you pretend to be the best, when you are not comparing to the king? And yes, WPs are smartphones indeed...

Nice try, Sony. Your sensors are indeed one of the best, but only installed in Apple products, not yours. Aaand actually you are still behind Samsung's cameras, who are behind Nokia's 808 and 1020. So, still long way to go, Sony.:)

Okay PA saying this the best camera among its competitors? maybe in android ecosystem, but not in the windows phone. And PA is lying? in thier blind camera comparison, note 4 wins and iphone 6 is in the second, and why the z3 is second to the last?.
