Sony Xperia Z5 Premium hands-on: the first phone with a 4K screen

It was bound to happen sooner or later – the world's first smartphone boasting a 4K display has been officially announced. That's the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, which got unveiled at IFA 2015. Long story short, we're dealing with a cool yet weird beast of a smartphone – a smartphone reminding us that technology still has plenty of room ahead of it to evolve. After all, a figure of 800 pixels per inch sound quite impressive, no matter how we look at it. On the other hand, the Z5 Premium raises the question whether a 4K screen on a smartphone is truly something we need or simply a gimmick. Let's dive into it, shall we?...

I am curious to see how nice this display is. The G4 sounded crazy but it was pretty much on par with the HTC 1080p phones and behind the Z3 display IMO. This display should be nuts.

10 minutes of video recording and Z5 only got warm! Crazy s**t Sony I'm impressed and great improvement. Just the battery life and gaming heating test review on these three z5 beasts and they get my money on all models. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BfBakhs8To

More to do with the new cam and not the CPU, sorry to say, also the screen does not give you the Samsung oled or Samsung suhd type hit

That chrome looks awesome. I would request Sony to continue this color in their future flagships.

Don't mind him. Some people just don't know how to measure things. http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Sony-Xperia-Z5-Premium,Apple-iPhone-6-Plus/phones/9612,8908

Okay now please tell Huawei to put bigger battery, Sensor, Stereo Speakers + all the seals for IP68 certification inside Mate S i want to see are they still able to make the bezels that thin. Most people who complain about the bezels on Xperia flagship phone are clueless about engineering just like you. As a person who have a degree in engineering i think Sony have done a great job with their flagships. If you think i'm wrong please show me any other phones with stereo speakers, IP certification & similar components that has better screen to bezels ratio!

So spot on clueless bunch and the samsung supported press fuel this rubbish. If you want slim bezels go for the sony c5 ultra and that isn't water or dust proof. The I phone has none of that, doesn't even have front facing speakers and yet has bigger bezels, they forget also the size of the battery. None of these phones, even samsung's battery on the note 5 can't match what's on the z premium. My problem with sony is marketing i tell u, they allow all these novices to say so much rubbish bashing them with bezels and dimensions without addressing it. Look at the htc one m9 or m8 with front facing speakers, just look at the gigantic bezels on there. Check out the samsung galaxy s5 with water resistance rating of the the old xpreia z and compare the bezels to the z. The samsung still doesn't have front facing speakers yet it has the same bezel size with the z2.

:D u made my day .. yeah those up n down bezels are thick :D

do some research and find out why the bezels are that thick, that's bottom and top. If you can show us any phone with this same size of battery, front facing speakers and water proof ip68 rating that has smaller bezels your statement will make sense. This is incredible what sony has done period.

Z5 Screen-to-body ratio: 71.00 % GS6 Screen-to-body ratio: 70.48 % but...but...Sony has ummm...ummm

59. willard12 unregistered

If those ratios don't factor in the screen space used for on-"screen" buttons, and this article was about the Z5 and not the Z5 Premium, and you don't factor in the ratios of the edge variants, this would be a great point.

Onscreen buttons are part of the screen so they can't be part of the bezels.

Probably should have just stuck to FHD. 4K is fine and all that just to prove a point but clearly pushing that much pixels w/o breaking a sweat isn't SD810's thing. Unless Sony did learn a thing or 3 from Z4....
