Nothing amazing about this phone, aswell as Premium and almost every phone this year. This is just evolution and spec race, what is so amazing about 23MP camera when it will probably get crushed again by Sammy, LG and no doubt by Microsoft (and old 808 PV has bigger resolution anyway), this AF is nice but it's just gimmick, same scenario as with G3 and it's laser focusing, or M8. Fingerprint scanner, wow, just like it wasn't on phones for last years and even before (Atrix). I can't understand people who get excited by those phones, IMO nothing interesting has popped out since HTC M7, after that every new phone was just about specs.

You're not interested. Yet you wrote this big comment. Are you sure you are not copy pasting this comment everywhere?

No, I am interested, but many people here get excited about nothing and I just wonder why. I thought comment section was about discussing but I guess not on PA :d

Let me see, hmm, A 4k display with proven omni balance design, mirror back, MicroSD expandable up to 200GB, Worlds fastest autofocus with a very good digital stabilization, 2 days battery life even with a 810, fingerprint scanner put on the best place, high resolution audio with noise cancelling and all this is a waterproof design. What exactly do you not find premium in this device? An Apple or samsung logo? Is that what you are looking for?

All I said it's not exciting, not that it's not Premium. Though this topic, premium or not is very interesting because what defines "premium" in your opinion? The most premium thing about it IMO is price tag, 4K display, what does it change in terms of "premium". Battery, let's wait for tests, though my Z3 Compact was champ in this department so I can trust Sony on this one. Basically Z5P is just Z3 with 4K display that at least 70% of buyers wouldn't care for. SD cards were there always on Z line and God bless Sony for that, I don't even consider buying phone without SD slot these days, but Hi-res audio? I suggest you read some articles about software gimmicks, because they are never as good as implementing DAC, like ZTE did recently or Samsung with Wolfson, Apple with Cirrus and HTC with its own. Makes me wonder why Sony can include special DAC in their audio players but not in 800$ phone... You'll say that I'm hating, no, I just don't see anything justifying the premium price tag, it's not Vertu that uses some really expensive materials for their phones (just for art I guess). And please don't say "oh but you don't have this problem with Apple selling 300$ phone for 800", no I also sh.t on them for that and now many companies do the same thing, Sammy with S6 and Note and now Sony, HTC or even MS. Overall, I love Z5 Compact, I loved Z3C and I'll get Z5C as soon as it hit the shelves, but the direction OEMs take these days makes me worried, looks like every company wants to be Apple, I don't blame them, who wouldn't want, but on Android there is incredible competition and selling phones with such price isn't good idea.

"Basically Z5P is just Z3 with 4k display". Yeah, except they added a fingerprint sensor, improved camera, larger battery, larger device and more powerful CPU.

"more powerful CPU" the only thing i wouldn't agree!

1 - "What makes a premium device? (How to sell something as premium?)" A: convincing visual appealing, luxurious merchandising, good specs and a high price tag. Sometimes an exclusive support service is a plus. Then, yes, all those phonemakers are offering that with their devices, HTC recently introduced their Advantage warranty, ie. Like it or not, they are up and running on the premium race. Now Sony wants to do the same with Z5. Okay. They're doing well, but I am hopping for more. You sould not blame the battery (specs gerenerally speaking) as I said, for a premium product you don't necessarily need specs on state-of-art. They just need to be convincing. If they battery really lasts 2 days, great. Doesnt matter how many miliampers it has. This is what to be premium is like. Not to run alongside with the most faster horses out there, but become the most desirable one. Yes, the Z5 has good specs, some of them are great and its ok for a premium device. Now what Sony needs is launch it as a premium device with a premium marketing campaign, find a way sell it as a premium device, and to offer a premium-like support. Lets see.

I agree with Wiencon about selling phones with such high prices. Nobody can mark a product up as much as Apple and sell extreme numbers. If you want Android there is too much competition, but if you want IOS there is only one option.

Fast autofocus just "gimmick" for you? Better going to college again

If they focus on AF instead of overall quality then yep, I call it gimmick. Let's wait for the tests but we all know how Sony's phones perform in camera comparisions, I had Z3C and it sucked really. I just get the impression that Sony knows it's camera isn't so great (dunno why their DSLRs and RX100 are incredibly good) so they want to distract the audience with saying "Hey, but we have 0.2 seconds faster AF than S6" (that's just example)

Sony offer hybrid aka phased detection with 199point focus. Should it be good enough or you want more for small sensor? Dslr opinion should stay as it is....

Camera sampels provided by PH indicates you are wrong, and the g4 is miles behind both s5 and z5. Z5 and s6 is the best cameras ATM, for everyone using sony thias is a big upgrade from previuos modells. Mabye you dont care but i and manny others are glad to see sony finally puting it togheter and come up with an much improved phone, the design is old but stil good.

Duder, I have the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, it has the best camera, or shall I say takes the best pics of any phone I've ever had and I've had them all. Fyi, it uses Sony sensors, that's right Sony! Now I was never a fan initially of their square, boring looking design, but this premium version of the Z5 I like. Sony makes the best sensors, why do you think Sammy and Apple use their sensors!?!?! 4k screens are the next revolution in the smart phone industry also! The Z5 is also waterproof, not water resistant, but waterproof. I for the 1st time since I had the original droid back in 09, am liking this new phone from Sony.

Are you sure yours has a sony sensor? They put Samsung sensors in random los which seems to have increased over time. If you buy one now it's pretty rare to find an s6 with a sony sensor.

Lol yes the M7 was amazing with the stupid only 2 capacitive buttons that didn't work until 3 updates later and the gapless design that was full of gaps........ Lol

Oh yes, the 808 PV who has been exceeded by phones with 16mp cameras, like Sammy as you put it! Since when is fast AF a "gimmick"? The Atrix had a slide type sensor for the finger print. Only on the latest samsung stuff is it touch style.

The most amazing in Sony flagships since the Z2 has been the digital voice cancellation. Which traditionally is totally overlooked by every single review.

8. TyrionLannister unregistered

There are 3 reasons behind it. 1. It's just software, which isn't too special. Other manufacturers have similar or better features. Samsung's adapt sound gives you a series of frequencies and asks if you hear them or not. Then it adjusts all the songs to what you hear and amplifies the frequencies which your earphone doesn't give out that well, it makes even cheap earphones sound nice. Similarly, LG and HTC have some features too. They are overlooked in reviews too. 2. Active noise cancellation works better and works on any media player. 3. The Sony noise cancellation requires you to buy seperate Sony earphone set which costs about 100$. Sorry, but I'd rather buy an ATH M50X for 140$ which sounds a million leagues better. I don't think these features are worth mentioning in reviews. Also, reviewers don't mention the pathetic sound quality and poor volume levels Sony phones out compared to HTC and Apple phones.

ATH M50x is headphone not an earphone btw. And there's alot of sony headphones out there with much better performance than ATH50X (albeit more expansive)

Dude, I use it daily and it just works and no other manufacturer has it, and this is all I need to know. The system that Samsung employs is unknown to me but it cannot possibly work as well, if it doesn't register the ambient noise. As you correctly say, you need special earphones with integrated microphones, and indeed this system is unique to Sony. But the special earphones cost me €30, not $100.

Please spread your hate somewhere else. Thank you. People that talk bad about a certain manufacturer per se are just unnecessary ballast on these websites.
