The new Sony Xperia XZ2 (see full specs here) has arrived in the office for review and before we put it through a bunch of tests and benchmarks, here is a first look at the upcoming Sony flagship.

So let's waste no time: it's time to unbox the XZ2, see what's inside the box and get some first impressions of the phone.

What's in the box:
  • Phone
  • Quick Charge 3.0 wall charger (USB-A, 16 watts)
  • USB-C to USB-A cable
  • USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter
  • User Manuals

The XZ2 adopts a new taller and narrower, 2:1 aspect ratio for its 5.7-inch display and it looks sleek. On paper, it's listed as one of the thickest phones out there, but in real life it does not feel excessively bulky because of the curved back and actually handles nicely. It is also built reassuringly solidly. The back is made of glass and looks very stylish, but the black model that we got also showed fingerprint smudges very noticeably and you would need to clean it often to keep it in pristine condition.

A quick glance at the specs reveals the top-level Snapdragon 845 system chip, coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage. On the back, you have a 19-megapixel "Motion Eye" camera, the first ever on a phone to be able to record 4K HDR videos.

The XZ2 also has a few tricks up its sleevs: 960fps super slow motion recording, a new vibration motor that responds to music and games, and makes the phone feel more interactive, almost like a game controller (you can also disable this functionality, if you don't like it). Last, but not least: new and more powerful loudspeakers.
