Sony Xperia Touch now available for purchase in the U.S. for a small fortune

After introducing its interactive projector in Europe earlier in the summer, Sony announced the Xperia Touch is now available for purchase in the United States. T-Mobile is the only carrier in the country to offer the device through its brick and mortar stores, but Amazon is selling it as well.

Customers who want to buy the Xperia Touch interactive projector will have to come up with no less than $1699.99. Keep in mind that T-Mobile will only sell the device in select flagship stores in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami.

The Xperia Touch interactive projector is supposed to turn any flat surface into a 23-inch HD touchscreen via a horizontal or vertical ultrashort-throw laser projection. The device runs Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box and provides users access to Google Play Store.

On top of that, the Xperia Touch features a 13-megapixel camera with Exmor RS sensor and a two-way stereo speaker. According to Sony, the device was built using the company's SXRD projection display technology, which uses a combination of infrared light and real-time detection via its built-in camera, at a rate of 60fps (frames per second).

Connectivity-wise, Sony Xperia Touch includes Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C, NFC (Near Field Communication), HDMI and Wi-Fi support. It's also worth noting that the projector's battery should provide up to 1 hour of usage (based on continuous video playback at half brightness).
