If I am to consider for a second alternative phone, then the $149 lumia 520 is always the best deal! I am getting almost the same specs and saving $80 too!! I dont understand how nokia price these phones at such a low price when the other OEMs cant.

Let me tell you the reason why Xperia M is better option and $80 more expensive than 520.
1. front facing camera for occasional video chat.
2. better connectivity and sensor like Wi-Fi direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC, Bluetooth v4.0 with ANT+ and magnetometer/compass.
3. according to gsmarena Xperia M has better brightness, contrast ratio, outdoor visibility, ppi, battery life and speaker.

Xperia M also has better apps and games support, So even though Xperia M bit more expensive i think the price is quite fair especially if you look at the feature it has.

Now let me point out the facts.
1. Front facing camera I agree it doesnt have.
2. Bluetooth 4.0 will be there after amber update, NFC hardly used by anyone still now rest are not something that will hamper my experience.
3. 233ppi=245ppi. Now one will be able to differentiate that. Battery life is better in 520 (read from reviews). The rest of the features are debatable because sony doesnt really produce great screens.
4. No HDR is rarely a problm. The camera on 520 produces better pictures (from reviews).
5. No LED flash. Ya i agree it to be a disagvantage.
6. Mass storage is there so it wont be any problem for lacking USB OTG.
7. 512 RAM is not a problm. It runs 99% apps and games without a hint of lag.

So its my opinion that lumia 520 is a better product for the money u pay and I am not saying it is better than M. I dont mind if u disagree.

I earn $400 per month from my job and after paying for rent and food and everything else, think from my point of view that u have saved ur hard working money and then ur considering to buy a phone and then decide if having a front facing cam and led flash is worth spending $80 more. Dont think from the point of someone who can afford the S4 or note 3. Mid ranges are for ppl like me only who dont have lots of money to spend. So I feel lumia 520 will be an extremely good device for that price point.

If i am to consider for a
second alternative phone (Just like what you said in your post #1) but i only earn $400 per month.

I’ll save some money until i have enough money to buy Xperia M.

Because Xperia M will meet my needs much better than 520 like Video chat with my family when i couldn’t meet them in person, take photos/videos in the dark, get better apps and games.

Not a hater here... I actually see your point, but we are missing the white elephant in the room in this conversation... Apps... and I know this might start a brawl here but this is absolutely NOT my intention... I am just pointing out that for the time being there is a huge difference in app support and developer attention...

Nokia was for a long time was the favorite brand of most people... but today they are bound to stay as relevant as a niche product... until their app store truly catch up...

Remember that the hardware of a phone only goes so far... and WP even has an advantage in this aspect, since they are much better optimized for it.... BUT the functionality of a smartphone (or a computer) depends as much on the software...

It is not just paying 80 bucks for a front facing camera, nfc and led flash... its paying 80$ for all the functionality and potential that having those hardware difference can bring paired to a richer App store...

Anyway I respect your decision to go for the 520 if in the end it suits you better....

By the way, Sony does produce great screens... what they haven't been paying attention until recently is viewing angles... but their screens are actually very good...

Though the Bravia engine (or X-reality today) is what get wows from people when I show them pictures in my phone... and correct me if I'm wrong, but sadly this Xperia M does not support the Bravia software...

Both the Lumia 520 and 620 are priced cheaper than this. It would be more accurate to say that this phone is competing with the Lumia 720.

I LOVE the Sony 2012-2013 family the amazing feature in them all is the screen quality

If so I respectfully disagree... Xperia's screen have been actually pretty good... specially in their flagships... though not as good as the competition, they have been pretty good still.... My Xperia Acro S (and Xperia S) had one of the highest ppi screen for their time, and the Bravia engine for pictures and videos gives you the option to make them vibrant and colorful almost as an Amoled screen, while keeping Homescreen and apps in a natural color way...

I had the Galaxy S3 which made me fall in love with Amoleds, but after the Xperia Acro S, I find the Bravia solution to be better... specially for pictures where it keep skin colors natural, but gives greens and blues a bit of saturation...

By the way, all of this is more important in my opinion, than viewing angles.... And I find my Xperia Acro S's screen to still be better than the one in the current iPhone 5

I should repeated my reply out loud that's really sound like sarcastic, but no I really mean it.
i'm a Sony Xperia acro S owner and yes I loved it so much it was a big step for me to transfer from Nokia C5 to a huge android device operator, actually since January and I wont trade it for any thing "at least for another two years or year and a half", and I agree with u in this phone description.

It\'s good that SONY still makes inexpensive phones in case someone don\'t want to spend over 600-700$ on a unlocked phone

No way would I buy this pile of crap.. I'd rather have a n4 at that price and before you say no n4 at that price read the article and where it's being introduced.. Point being this phone is NOT worth what they are selling it for... Typical Sony overpriced.

I cannot believe you got this review so badly wrong, you are suppose to be a reviewer, well at least know your product, have you ever done that ? You state in this review that the micro sd card which can be put in this phone is able to store apps on the card, well hey I guess I could have reviewed this phone more accurately than you because you cannot transfer any app storage from the small internal memory to the micro sd making this phone an absolute pile of dog pooh.
Go dig rocks.
