Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S Hands-on

0. phoneArena posted on 09 Sep 2011, 02:57

In a tried and tested mobile industry fashion, Sony Ericsson has released a specced-up stop-gap device and thrown the letter 'S' in for good measure. What you get is the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S, with a 1.4GHz processor as well as 2D and 3D Sweep Panorama functionality for the camera...

What's wrong with you, PhoneArena writes a review about SE Xperia Arc S, and i just asked them if they could write on about the Wave 3. Every serious Phone site writes reviews about new phones with great specifications like the Wave 3 (gsmarena already has). So i asked phonearena to make a review of the Wave 3.

I know that reviewing a phone you like would be awesome for you but you don't have to go onto every damn page and post your bada nonsense.

Phonearena appears to concentrate more on phones that have some sort of contention.
Bada phones would not fall under this category unless there was one with powerful enough specs to overshadow the fact that it uses "Baaaada"

it's better than both IOS, Symbian and WP7. And in my opinion it is better than Android too.

lol, better than ios android and wp7?

Lets take a look. 1.android - Bada is a copy of android with very few differentiation's. IT has very few apps and they aren't even of the highest quality.

2.IOS - Ok, i hate apple. Unless the iphone is stellar, i'm not going to care. So Bada is better than ios. Shocker!

3.WP7 - Don't even bother comparing them both. They are for entirely different segments. WP7 is for people who want easier functionality rather than eye-catching looks. But it still looks less clutter than android, leave alone bada.

4. Symbian- This might not be the best, but its good enough to beat Bada. The apps have a higher quality, nokia ovi has much better integration and if you have hardware like nokia does, i don't care what its running as long as its functional.

Just shows how little you know about phones.
You see, i'm a mobile phone expert, i know everything there is to know about phones. If i don't know about it, it's not worth knowing.

bada is not a copy of Android. It does looks similar to Samsungs Android phones, but that is because of the touchwiz UI. If you compare bada to stock Android, it is not similar except for the pull down notification bar.

You are right that WP7 are for people who wants simpe and easy to use, yet ugly phones (square, black and white, WP7 reminds of DOS). Thats why no one is buying WP7. So you agree that bada has more functions than WP7 !

Symbian is a good OS, and has a lot of functions. However bada has lots better UI than Symbian (even with belle). And with bada 2.0, bada actually has more functions than Symbian.

When it comes to apps, most apps for Symbian are very low quality apps. When it comes to bada, the wave has 6500 apps at the moment and about 6400-6500 of them are high quality apps.

(you see, i have 2 Nokia symbian 3 phones, 2 bada phones, and i used to have WP7 and Android. I know alot about different OSes.)

I never said WP7 has less functionality than Bada. This just shows how bad you are at understanding stuff. Black and white and square??? you just described every freaking smartphone.(leaving out Sony and nokia). Which other phone looks different? And talking about Bada being better than it. Bada has hanging problems, it has bugs and all sorts of s**t. Whereas WP7 has a very nice flow to it. Even when an app takes some time to load, it executes it beautifully.

If you look at all the Bada phones, you will see that they don't even come close to the high-enders. But just look at the HTC titan or the Dell venue pro. They execute class in a way Bada never can.

Bada might be easier to use than symbian. But it doesn't have as many connectivity options because of the amount of symbians out there. Nokia has sheer amount as a plus point. If you look at anybody, at least 5 people they know ill have a nokia. But ask them about Bada and you'll see that some people haven't even heard of it.Are the Bada phone cameras anywhere near nokia's? Are their updates even close to nokia's? And the fact is that bada is a low-end middle class conideration. No point in comparing it with the giants of the smartphone industry.

When you look at WP7 UI, it is black and white and completely square. Android, IOS, bada and Symbian does not have that kind of ugly UI. EVERY PHONE DOES NOT LOOK BLACK, WHITE AND SQUARE.

i have used bada a long time, and i have not experienced one single bug on bada. I have used WP7 too for a long time, and there was soo many bugs on WP7 that you can't even describe them. The WP7 i had restarted itself several times, hanged, didn't update live tiles, didn't register new SMS, several serious bugs on WP7.

If you look at bada phones, the first wave that was announced was a high end phone (it had the same specifications as the Galaxy S, except a smaller screen). The Wave 2 was a middle phone. The recently announced Wave 3 is a high end phone, so your argument does not make sense.

If you have ever tried bada, you will seee that bada in fact is faster and smoother than WP7, this is a true fact since i have used both.

What do you mean about connectivity options ?

The Wave 3 has Wifi direct, NFC, bluetooth. Nokia does not have wifi direct.

I'm not going to argue this with you, it's just too stupid, don't be a blind sheep, realize the truth.

realise the truth?? you sound like a priest. The WP7 you had must have been faulty. From what i've seen and used, WP7 is the most bug-free of them all. And the fact that you call the wave 3 high end brings a smile to my face.

And that's what the fanboys do, blame WP7 and say the one i had was faulty : P
I definitely was not faulty at all, except it had the beta OS called WP7.

Of course the Wave 3 is High end. 4 inch superamoled (superamoled is still the 2nd best screen technology after superamoled+), 1.4 ghz processor (don't know yet if it is dual or single core, samsung has not said anything abiut that), metal and glas body, plus really fast internet speed. That is what is called a high end phone. I suppose you wouldn't call the SE Xperia Arc S a high en phone either then, with your kind of reasoning, or maybe the HTC Titan ?

It's a single core for gods sake. But the problem is that the specs it has aren't new. It isn't a big update. If the wave 3 came out a year ago, it would have been awesome. Its not worth all the hype samsung created about it. The very fact that its the same as the OG wave except for the higher processor speed and the screen size is what bugs me. Its not a refreshing new thing.

The xperia arc has design as its plus point. It's just a gorgeous looking device and the fact that its smooth while even some dual cores weren't is what made it such a big thing. And as you can see, they said that the arc S was a minor update, not the Arc 2. The HTC titan has that super-sized screen in its favour and of course WP7 too.

Your wave 3 is not worth the status you're trying to bestow upon it.

Its been confirmed its single core. Samsung would not be as stupid as to put a dual core phone into an OS that isn't nearly as strong as all the other contenders.
Even more so, Superamoled, is not the 2nd best either, AH-IPS from LG has been proven to beat it. (Dunno about the Samoled plus).

Even if you know about every phone, its clear that your opinion remains completely biased towards bada. And before you start flaming me, im still using the first Wave

Wave 3 high end? LOL. That's hilarious. Any phone without a dual core processor cannot be considered high end. Period. The screen is not even super amoled+. Finally, there is no "4G". So how is this Wave 3 "high end?".

We don't even know yet if the Wave 3 has dual core or not. Samsung has not said a word about it. But as i said, i suppose you think the HTC TItan is high end ?
That's only got a 1.5 ghz single core processor, and not even superamoled screen.
The Wave 3 is definitely high end.

Give it up already. It is reviewed and confirmed to be a single core processor. Get over it. It also cannot film in 1080p. The wave's specs are not a whole lot different than any of the phones that came out last summer. This is a thread you started about the wave, not other phones. There is no feature about this phone that is high end. It does not have the best camera, the best screen, the best processor, the most memory etc. There is not one thing that it has the best of. Compared to other wave/bada phones it is "high end" because it is better than the rest. In the greater picture, it is simply a middle of the road phone. Similarly, compared to other wp7 phones on the market, the titan is high end. But unlike the wave, it will have the fastest single core processor on the market regardless of platform, and the 2nd biggest screen. You have been moderated because your constant bada comments have become spam like.

You post just confirms that the Wave 3 is high end. YOu say the titan is high end, yet there is only 0.1 ghz difference between the Wave 3 and the Titan. And it might be that the Wave 3 does in fact have adual core processor, we simply don't know yet (i don't care about the reviews, Samsung has not given any information about the processor). The wave 3 has a superamoled screen, the titan doesn't. And you call the titan a high end phone and not the Wave 3 ?
Come on, don't be a clown.

lol, you seem to be in denial Peter. Does the Wave 3 have a 4.7 inch screen? I don't think so. And yeah, no matter what you say, it is a single core phone. The superamoled screen has a pentile matrix. That makes its pixel density appear to be the same as the HTC titan. But the fact that it is almost an inch smaller in size shows that it wont stand against the Titan. And after all the hype that samsung created, its not that big a deal.

Microsoft promoted Windows Phone 7 mango, not the Titan. Samsung said the Wave 3 is going to be awesome. I don't think it has bang for your buck anymore. Especially when it will be priced at around 300 euros. Not worth the money. Might as well buy the cheaper galaxy S and get Android which is better than Bada and has a very strong chance of getting Ice cream sandwich.

I'm not going to argu this all day with you.
The wave 3 is a high end phone and it is as simple as that. Just because a phone doesn't have a 4.7 inch screen doesn't mean it is not a high end phone. The titan doesn't even have superamoled, which is sooo much better than normal lcd screen.
When it comes to the processor, the fact is that we don't know for sure if it has dual core or single core processor, SAMSUNG HAS NOT SAID ANYTHING OFFICIAL ABOUT THAT YET !!!

For the price of 3500 crowns here in sweden, the wave 3 is extremely cheap priced. And android is not better than bada, you have not even tried bada.

For god's sake, GSMarena has done a preview of it and has confirmed that it's a single core piece of crap. I don't think lots of people will bother about that except us tech geeks. And the fact that you're saying that it is cheap signifies that it is a mid-ranger. It's not ready to take on the Big giuns of the smartphone league.

And nobody ever said that the Arc was the best. We only said that it had class that the Wave3 doesn't. It could run an Os that some dual cores still stuttered with smoothly. If that doesn't show quality, then nothing does. Your wave3 runs an Os that comes at the same smoothness at least 100 euros cheaper. And your constant irritating posts about Bada is getting unbearable. If you like bada then ok. But don't make people hate it with your two bit cheap ass comments.

I know everyones waiting for quad-core and stuff, but does a phone actually need it? Most laptops only have dual or quad core processors albeit with higher clock speeds and hyperthreading. most phones run fine on a single core processor, take the iPhone 4, I have almost never seen any instances of lag on the thing and it runs on a single core processor.
If the Evo 3D or Sensation weren't available these would be what I would consider:

1. LG Optimus 3D
2. Samsung Galaxy S ll
3. SE Xperia Arc S
4. Motorola Atrix 4G

At least can you send me an email on my email adress explaining that ?
You know PhoneArena, i don't really appreciate my comments being moderated like that.

it's simple most people prefer Android, iOS and WP7
that's why there are fewer news about Symbian, MeeGo, Bada, etc.
Don't get me wrong, i think Bada is a great OS (last year i almost bought a wave), but the other OSes who are on the spotlight right now so if you really like Bada i would recommend a more specific site on this subject.
About the moderation thing it must have been a mistake or they are considering your comments as Spam because you are commenting about this on every recent hands on

The thing about WP7 is not true though, bada has more market share than WP7 (more than 20 %more marketshare in the last quarter) so people at the moment want bada more than WP7.
And about the moderation, i agree, it must be a misstake. PhoneArena, please realize your misstake and remove the moderation.
