Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone videotaped with its game on

0. phoneArena posted on 07 Jan 2011, 03:43

The Sony Ericsson PlayStation Phone gets thoroughly previewed and tested in China, PlayStation Pocket app confirmed, as well as modern specs with a 4" screen. The only gripe seems to be that the controller can't be used for current Android games...

Disappointment---> to me.

Well, if I just look at it as another android phone, then it might be fine. BUT, underneath that screen, its not a physical keyboard for typing, but for games? how many people would want to just buy that control to just play game? (Not that many I guess) .Phone's construction will be bigger for the "gamers" that want to enjoy their games more on an Android phone.

The PSP Go is not that popular already, and then it follows up with a Playstation/Xperia phone? I really hope that's going to work for SE. X10 is already a "fail" for SE since it says nono to 2.2.

Sony is superior in a lot of consumer products,but when it comes to cell phone, they still need to work harder or a better idea to attract buyers. The Xperia Arc is definitely a good start.

I actually disagree. I couldn't care less about a physical keyboard, typing with a virtual one is almost as fast once you get used to it.

For serious gaming, though, touchscreens are useless, no matter how they try.

This combines the best of both worlds - a physical game controller, and still a great Android smartphone, plus the games will be mich cheaper than for a PS, or PSP Go

Agree, I do type faster on the screen than a physical keyboard. But the real question might be how serious can gaming go on this phone?

By serious, how "serious" are the games gonna be? An emulator for PSP games? I don't think thats going to happen. If it becomes an emulator for PSP games, then what's the point of a PSP/ PSP Go? I think the game controller is very serious for android mobile games.

rumors are that there will be a section of android market dedicated to the playstation phone, and the games will be at mobile prices, i.e. less than $10, instead of $40 like for the rest of the PS gang
We shouldn't forget this is running Gingerbread, which main reason for existence is gaming optimization - faster graphics rendering, native support for motion sensors, etc., because Google wants to take on Apple's iPhone and iPad becoming the most popular mobile gaming platform.
so the playstation phone is receiving a lot of attention from google, and will probably be the poster child for the gaming capabilities of Android, and thus the games written specifically for the phone will probably be with rich graphics, like Rage HD for the iPhone, but more interactive, not rail shooters, since we now have actual controller, not lame touchscreen.
as far as PSP emulator, no idea, but i've heard Tekken and some other classics will be ported over here, maybe these will be some of the 5 games the PS phone is supposed to come with.

This is a great concept but it gonna fail if it doesn't have the games to back it up. I love Sony products and all but its already a outdated phone. Lacks hdmi out (what the hell) and is already slower then most current phones out now. No games make use of a gamepad (unless your running emulators) until games get updated or made for gingerbread. Also I read that Sony (PSP) and SE are keeping it games separate. Only word so far as games that will make it is PS mini and PS games. No PSP titles will be ported currently. I was really looking forward to this phone but the spec are lacking compared to the Motorola Bionic. I will wait this one out and see what games come out for the phone otherwise if its mobile gaming you want Apple got everyone beat and I hate Apple products LOL (but have a ipod touch just for the games). Also SE needs to get all the games from itunes ported over as well. So SE start working your magic and get those games from itunes on to playstation pocket.

The hardware is a year behind; the games will cost twice as much; and Sony has the worst record for software updates. Lock this down to AT&T in the states and I can already see the death spiral (you can see how well that's working for Apple - Android just passed them in total owners). Looks like Sony blew another one, I was really looking forward to this phone.

The prototype might be using a 1GHz Snapdragon QSD8255 or MSM8655 processor, but they might change that. If they do change the processor, I think that they should use the NVIDIA Tegra 2.
