So... iPhone XR or iPhone XS / XS Max: which would you buy?

Now that all three 2018 iPhones are available (OK, the XR is still in the pre-order stage), those who held out on a new iPhone purchase will finally need to make their choice... A choice between the $999+ iPhone XS or XS Max and the “cheaper” iPhone XR.

Turns out, the XR doesn't cut that many corners. You lose 3D Touch, but that's a feature that many have called useless for years. You lose a telephoto lens, but is it really that important? And you get an LCD panel with a 326 pixels per inch density, which is not as fancy as the new OLED panels on the XS models.

But hey, the processor is the same, the main cameras are the same, you still get Face ID, and the new iPhone design, though with a slightly thicker bezel. And you get your own pick from 6 pretty cool colors. Are the benefits of an XS model worth an extra $250 to you, or would you rather get the $750 iPhone XR (or even better – the 128 GB iPhone XR for $800) and call it a day?
