So, about that Galaxy S8 fingerprint reader positioning...

Day after day, we are getting more and more leaks, schematics, and whatnot, which shows us a Galaxy S8 with a very, very impressive screen-to-body ratio and a pretty confusing fingerprint scanner placement.

I'm starting to hate leaks. They usually ruin everything so the actual introduction sucks.

These are the dimensions of the s7 edge 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 mm, if the dimensions for the s8 plus are 159.53 × 73.37mm then it is way to long compared to the s7 edge. If the s8 plus is almost a centimetre longer than the s7 edge then what was the point of reducing the bezels

I'm not a fan of the placement, but I could get used to it again because I used to have the LG G3 (thought he G3 didn't have a fingerprint scanner). However, I do like the home button with fingerprint scanner on the front on the Note 5. To me, it's even more convenient to access.

-You cant unlock your phone in a car holder. What you going to do? Stare at the iris scaner with your baby in the car while driving? -no wallet type protection. You cant protect this phone. If you wear a back protective case, it will push your tempered glass screen protector. -you will touch that camera everytime you try to unlock it, you know.. smudges etc -nothing amazing. Nothing new. Im not sure.

In Nougat you can choose when you want your phone to lock or remain unlocked. That, plus some sort of double tap to wake feature, eliminates that issue.

No man, that is not safe. I dont want to turn this on and off until i forget and someone has a look into my phone. Thats not a solution for me

No. The phone will lock or unlock on its own, depending on your location, as preset by the owner.

The easiest solution is to stick an NFC sticker on your dashboard and when you enter the car have it configure it for a car mode. I use windows mobile and car mode exists there, so it has to exist on android. My android phone is unfortunately on kit kat so not much to explore. But you can even just disable the password and double tap to wake. then have another sticker near the door you can tap when leaving the car. This will pretty much work for anyone. The wallet thing I'm sure there will be accessories made specifically for the phone that deal with this issue. The smudging, yah it happens regardless. I keep a little microcloth and wipe my lens if I'm going to take shots. Takes a second. I'm not saying you have to get the phone I'm simply throwing some ideas where your concerns can be remedied.

"You cant unlock your phone in a car holder. What you going to do? Stare at the iris scaner with your baby in the car while driving" If your on your phone driving with your baby in the car then your really stupid taking a chance.

Look carefully at the measurements. The s8 is 131.58 in screen length and full phone length is also 131.58 which is not possible. The diagonal 143.05 over 1cm of the phones size. The s8 plus is 142.34 in screen length and the full phone length is 159.53. The diagonal is 154.46. 5mm less than phones length. Something is wrong with this post.

Don't worry. Samsung won't do this. Given how most people don't care for it. Where's the dedicated AI button or did I miss it? PA reported on while back.

Yeah, it's confusing. The bodies are basically going to be 5'5 and 5'7 and slightly more narrow, to ease with one handed use.

Bloody awful position. One should not have to adjust, then readjust when unlocking holding one handed. There's a reason every phone with a rear scanner up to this point has it placed centered an few mm below camera. Whoever thought this was a passable idea needs to be shot.

A fingerprint scanner on the back sucks, I hope it's wrong and it's really just a biometric scanner. However, I used the Iris scanner more than the fingerprint scanner when I had the Note 7 so if the S8 still has it...I'm good. It's not a deal breaker.

I have read here for years, but had to create an account just to voice my opinion that not having the button on the front of the phone with the physical keys, is a deal breaker for me. I also don't liket he curved screen at all. I have a hard time believing that what has worked for Samsung for years (and got them to this point) is going away. I just hope another manufacturer steps up to fill the void. Sort of tired of the louder minority getting their way

I have a curve screen now, and unless Samsung creates an option to disable the edges for various apps and when the phone is off, I won't get it again. I hate that the edge can activate the phone while it is in your pocket (bad programming). I cannot tell you how many times the phone has tried to make (Emergency) calls while it is just sitting in my pocket.

Ideal place is in the front. Feels more practical.

I always hate fingerprint readers on the back, because I put the the phone in a cradle in cars, (at home and when I travel). Once in the cradle, the back is inaccessible. Even an Iris scanner, if it isn't capable of seeing my eyes 2 feet away and off center, then that'll be useless to too.

So this is a worse scenario than LG's awkward design. I never thought anyone, let alone Sammy, could mock up LG 's design, and miserably fail at it. #wtfsamsung and just throwing it for techie and tedkord: no am not an apple fan.

Why cropped the picture and hiding where the source came from? "Rendered by Matt Kim, Based upon a eyewitness account". Really trustworthy? http://www.cnet.co.kr/view/100153646

PA, have ypu ever stated about any other pbone, that actually has a fingerprint reader on the back, about smudging up the camera? Also you dont even know where its gonna be. The last thing i beard before fan renders was, it was going to be under the glass in the front. Without any confirmation from Samsung, you just going by a fan render that this mysterious cutout is a fingerprint sensor

I owned the infamous Note 7. I used the Iris scanner for security. When you pick up the phone the accelerometers in the phone detected that the phone was moving and turned the phone on. So all you had to do was pick up the phone and look at it and the phone was up, running, and unlocked. You didn't have to touch anything, no buttons and not the screen. It was Sweet! The Note 7 was the finest smartphone out there, other than that exploding/burning thing. Never used the finger print scanner, and I won't use it on the S8!

if the sensor is on the right side of the camera when facing towards you then I'm all in, but anywhere else is gonna be an big NO!
