Snapdragon 855 smashes competition, passes iPhone XS results in latest AnTuTu benchmark

AnTuTu is one of the most popular benchmark kits out there. It has been so for years and it has established itself as a solid reference service when it comes to phone hardware performance. Company headquarters, AnTuTu Labs often runs tests of its own, to follow hardware developments first-hand.

Qualcomms always beat A series in Antutu. Though this time, the difference minute.

And that's just for the reference model, see how OP6T scores way over that reference 845 using the same SoC. OP7T could pass 400k on Antutu.

Antutu themselves said you can't compare android and ios scores.

Really?! When did they say that??

He’s right. Ann Bunny of Antutu (Yes that’s Antutu rep name) confirmed it. Google Gizchina and “ANTUTU STATES THAT SNAPDRAGON 855 SCORE AGAINST APPLE A12 DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING”

Wow, thnx. But then what's the point of comparing those two....

There isn’t...but tech sites have no clue...so, what do you expect?!

And I myself never said anything about comparing it to iOS scores.

How can you be sure that benchmarks are to be trusted?

I do trust only apple that its chip will last for more than 5 years. Fast, reliable , efficient and long lasting.

Sucks that their batteries last 1/5 of that. Jokes aside, do you really believe that others socs found on android phones die or lose their power after few months or years? Lol

Well, Android support is guaranteed for 18 months? 3 years on Pixel.

We're talking about the chip in here.

Why won't the Snapdragon ones last as long?

apple and qualcomm soc are both manufactured by TSMC. Whats inside your head, an air or a fat?

Except that per Antutu itself, iOS score and Android score are NOT comparable.

AnTuTu is s**t. I can't believe people in 2019 are considering AnTuTu results....

Yup...Anandtech even made a comment about Antutu...not a very good benchmark...and thus, Anandtech (and other well known tech reviewers) never use it.

Of course they do not use benchmarks where non apple things come out on the top....anandtech use to be great, now they are just sucking apple ass....

Oh come on! Just that dumb dude. There is no conspiracy. Anandtech benchmarks are a lot more thorough than others. BTW, Anandtech main guy uses Android.

The best comparison is what Anandtech did a few days ago...they benchmarked S855 reference device. It was not that good...and far behind A12 in pretty much every aspect.

That's BS The only aspect it's behind by a big margin is single core CPU performance It's slightly behind in GPU efficiency (not surprising considering its GPU is 30% smaller) It's about on par in CPU efficiency, multi core CPU, GPU and AI performance But the benchmarks weren't updated to utilize the Tensor core, so it's probably ahead in AI performance Very impressive considering how stingy Qualcomm are on die size

Those reference devices usually show about 80-90% of the chips power. They need to utilize more die space considering adreno 640 is probaly going to be the smallest gpu again, but like you said it is very impressive generating slightly more power than its competition.

Sorry...but GPU of S855 at PEAK performance was slightly less than A12 SUSTAINED performance. When comparing peak vs. peak, there is a HUGE difference! Remember, in CPU multicore...S855 has 8 cores, and A12 has 6 cores. So, the fact that A12 is able to slightly beat S855 in multi-core is damn impressive. For power efficiency, A12 still leads the pack. Whether QC is stingy on die is irrelevant. They went cheap and thus pays for it.

Slightly behind in Aztec Ruins, slightly ahead in Manhatten and tie in T-Rex Qualcomm GPUs don't throttle much, last year the 845 only throttled by 10%, they've reduce its power consumption this year, so probably like 5% Really impressive considering the 855's GPU is only 3 cores (probably ~10-12mm2), while the A12's GPU is 4 cores (~15mm2) Gotta breakdown the CPU more than that lol The 855 is 1+3 A76s and 4 A55s A76's are 4-wide OoO and A55's 2-wide in-Order So its like 1+3 big perf cores and 4 little eff cores The A12 is 2 Vortex and 4 Tempest cores Vortex are 7-wide OoO and Tempest cores are 3-wide OoO Tempest cores are based on Apple's Swift core, from the A6 2 huge perf cores and 4 medium perf cores Which makes it really impressive the 855 can keep up in multi core as the A12 has 2 more performance cores Apple leads in GPU efficiency, which is expect given their GPU is ~30% wider Qualcomm's CPU efficiency is actually slight ahead of Apple's Although Apple can reach higher performance but at linearly higher power consumption

Benchmark scores mean nothing. Proved it when POCOphone beat the XS in a speadtest on YTube.
