Shocking: Chinese teenager sells his kidney for an iPad 2

0. phoneArena posted on 02 Jun 2011, 06:33

17-year-old Chinese boy Zheng liked the iPad just as pretty much every tech geek out there. But being seventeen means you don’t have your own money. Combine this with a mind-boggling local advertisement offering cash

i'm sure he will very very disapointed about his decision...
because ipad 2, or even ipad 3 is nothing compared to healthy (single kidney is bad)

I'm shocked..... its not only the iPad.... but how much is someone willing to sacrifice to get their gadgets? I mean I save up and cut some chocolate money to get a nice gadget... but a kidney? and all the issues this may brought upon? there is no gadget on earth worth that much

Absolutely agree 100%. Someone with the mindset to sell body parts for a gadget needs to be monitored 24/7...

Would you be more shocked to learn that there are people donating their kidneys to strangers for FREE? I say this kid is smart for actually getting something out of it. Plus, he saved a life. Have you saved someone's life lately? I have, and I do, every day. I'm a medical professional :)

he did it to get an iPad 2...

he did it to get an iPad 2....

he did it to get an iPad 2...

If he would did it for the SOLE purpose to save a live....that woulda been different.

Would this kid still have donated his kidney if there was no money involved?

Regardless, yet his only reason for doing it was to get money to buy an iPad 2...

Not money to pay bills, not money to help someone in financial need....not money to help pay for school....but to buy a tablet....

I hope he goes to such great lengths again for something more important than a tablet.

Well for him it's important. And who are you to judge this kid as if you took care of him? He did not kill or steal to get his ipad. Go after those practitioners who took his kidney without his parent's consent. I bet you'd be more understanding if he wanted the xoom :)

Yea...cuz you know without a shadow of a doubt I just love all things Android...

Its not about Apple or the iPad....he did it for materialistic reasons...

well I have saved lives, me and my dad are blood donors.... but guess what? we do it for free because we get extra blood... now yeah he saved a life... a life that was willing to pay a lot of money, or maybe not even a life maybe the organ will be used for forbidden human experiments. unless of course you where the one that ensured that organ saved a life, now the lines waiting for a kidney OP makes black market a common practice in China where methods aren't well implemented to the donors (as you see the boy is having complications) now many of these cases are with people looking for money to continue living because their life is bad, others steal other peoples organs to gain money as a job, its the first case I've seen about a person giving an organ to get a gadget(YES MY FIRST CASE) and why I was shocked as much as being told that a pretty lady in Mexico bars that offers you a drink may be interested in stealing your kidney... aren't I allowed to be shocked then? now a friend of mine has both kidneys down and ive told her she could get mine if its compatible... am I going to get something in exchange? No but knowing that she will smile again its enough reward for me.... but was the kid thinking about making a better life out of the suffering patient? was the kid tested to see if it was even good for his own health? I don't think so

Well good for you for being a blood donor. Although kidney donors are way more rare than blood donors. Our body reproduces blood, so it's not as big of a sacrifice as a kidney.

As for whether or not the process was done appropriately, that is not the kid's fault. Malpractice happens whether there's an ipad2 involved or not. This kid probably thought that he's hitting two birds with one stone. That is, save someone's life and get an ipad2 for it.

We do good things for different reasons. Some expect something in return, some don't. As silly as this kid's reason is, he did not steal to get his ipad2 that he deserves to be judged like this by people who wouldn't even buy him an ipad yet feel like they have the right to judge him.

And you know no one on here would buy him an iPad because.....

Anyway....I'm sorry, there is no way you can rationalize his this. He did it soley for the purpose of buying a tablet. Offer him no money and lets see if he woulda still donated his kidney.

He didnt steal to get it, but he did something thats almost unthinkable for most ppl to wrap their heads around.

Let him donate that iPad 2 and then I will see him in a different light.

This kid has not committed a crime here. It's those malpracticing doctors. Yet, you totally ignore those adults and scold this kid like his your own, and like he killed someone or something, lol. This kid does not care as to what kind of light you see him in. You don't even know this kid, so why do you care so much? It's because he wanted the ipad, not the xoom, right? Lol.

The kid did commit a crime - of being outrageously stupid!
Saved a life? Of some rich bastard who has most likely lived out most of his, while at 17 you have your whole life ahead of you. But with 1 kidney, what a life that will be...
Tell me, when he was searching the internet, what was the kid thinking? "I want to save a life and donate an organ", or "I need cash for iPad and I'll do anything"?
You're a retard, gemini. For defending such a self-destructive and stupid action. Just because you are a fan of one company and a brand.
As for the adults who tricked the kid, they are scum, and they should go to jail. But the kid is also to blame - selling himself in parts to buy toys. What self-preservation! Or the lack of it to be precise.

You have two kidneys, but only one pancreas :)

This kid saved someone's life. But of course you do not see that because all you can see is the ipad2 :)

Just out of curiosity....

How do you know he "saved a life"?

"Trying to contact the people responsible for the surgery has proven impossible as the phone numbers don’t answer calls, while the hospital denies any knowledge of the surgery. At the same time, though, the medical establishment did acknowledge that it has contracted its urology department to a businessman."

That kidney could be in some poor bastards chili for gods sake!! And don't say, " oh they wouldn't do that", it's China bro.

Really? Your going to sell a body part that you need for the rest of your life for a gadget you will use for a year or 2 at best?!?!?! REALLY?!?!?!? Nothing like limiting your life and what you can do for a stupid gadget.

when a person with 1 kidney doesnt have to watch his diet and can go out drinking without having to worry about his body breaking down alchohol quickly enough, then your comment will have merrit.

Can a person with 1 kidney live a long life? Absolutely. Can a person with 1 kidney live a life like a person with 2? Not really.
And I'm studying medical while working in digital so I have the best of both worlds. :)

Is it this kids choice? no. he is too young to make a competent decision. Did he probably save someone's life with his decision? Yea, he probably did. But its the REASON for the desision that makes him an idiot, not the act.
