Sharp's president confirms that Apple will switch to OLED panels for future iPhone models

Next year, the Apple iPhone turns 10 and we expect Apple to note the occasion by making some major changes to the design of the phone. One major change that takes the screen on the iPhone from LCD to OLED, has already been rumored. Last week, the Nikkei Asian Review said that there will be three versions of the iPhone 8 including one with a 5-inch screen. The other two units will carry the usual 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays...

Same technology yes, just different marketing names and different implementation of the technology. At the core they are the same.

All of sudden, iVerge + BGR + PA will praise the new iPhone's retinoled screen like never before. It's stunning, gorgeous, amazing and it just blow the competitor out of water.

Pretty sure he said that Apple need to switch and NOT Apple will switch. Another misleading headline. Also surprised that phonearena didn't find away to fit in a comment about he note 7

Pretty sure you don't know how to read. Here is the Sharp exec's quote: "The iPhone has been evolving and now it is switching from LTPS (low-temperature poly-silicon) to OLED panels. We don't know whether Apple's OLED iPhones will be a hit..." When he says that "...now it is switching from LTPS to OLED panels..." that means that it is, well, switching. The only thing misleading, as usual, are the whining crybabies. Regards, Alan F.

@Alan01 how about "also surprised that PhoneArena didn't find away to fit in a comment about the Note7 [features]"? I bet you'll ridicule Samsung's AMOLED no more for its color inaccuracy and high contrast once the iPhones with OLED are out in the market.

Apple has already perfected the LCD, I think it's time they move on and try a new direction.(maybe a 1080p display for the 4.7 inch one?)
