See the Samsung Galaxy S5 running Android L in this 8 minute-long preview

The folks at SamMobile just landed a sweet exclusive -- a chance to play around with a test build (LRW58J) of Android L for the Samsung Galaxy S5. Before we get into the specifics, let's get one (rather important) thing out of the way -- according to SamMobile's source, Android L is indeed slated for a re-branding to Android Lollipop. In other words, if this turns out to be true, then the majority of you will have been spot on in one of our latest polls...

Not bad, but still too much TouchWiz for my tastes. Of course if you're a Samsung fan it's a nice improvement, but it's not going to sway someone like me who prefers a mostly stock interface.

TOUCHWIZ FTW. Touchwiz is the best mobile skin , nothing comes close to the features it equips . My S4 running on 4.4 is fast and smooth , its with features most high end devices don't have now.

Smart stay, smart rotation, air gestures, air command, multi windows are always on and I used them almost everyday.

I like Touch Wiz just don't like when it lags. I would still use it anyway.

I wouldn't by any other brands without these features (others called bloat/gimmickies). Anyway, others are taking these gimmicky features one by one.

You just cannot visually marry something as outdated as TouchWiz with a brand new vision like Material Design. It's probably gonna be a mess.

Android L gets about 30% battery life gained, but nothing much about the performance.

It's unfortunate that white is the predominant color being this is on an amoled screen.

Looks really nice. Here's hoping that the interface and features of the new TW and S5 come to the Note 3 when this update for Lollipop arrives....fingers crossed.

Looks decent enough, even with some of the lag.

Lollipop on top of Touch Wiz ruins everything...looks like every other Sammy product running Android.

I wouldn't expect any major TouchWiz overhauls on the Galaxy S5. They're probably saving that for the S6, like they do every generation.

TouchWiz we all know is how Samsung really makes their device stand out from other Android OEM's. At some point though, Samsung should be able to turn TouchWiz into an application. In other words, take away Touchwiz and actually take the TW apps and make them apps that run directly in Android. Or sit down and have the programmers actually take the TW UI and run it directly from inside the OS, not as a layer. Looks like it runs exactly like the S5 runs now. My play with my wife's S5 and I have yet to see it studder that bad. It could be, because the software isn't completely finished. But TW really needs much more optimization.

It's a bit of a myth to call anything a layer of skin. It's actually it's own version of Android. Built from the ground up using the same AOSP code as Google's version of Android.

Who cares. Snapdragon devices won't be able to use the 64bit version and the 30% extra performance it brings.

Who told you that a 64 bit chip is needed for the performance boost?

Snapdragons suck.

It's not Lollipop, should be LMP, Lion, or Lays.

It's funny how people make it sound like touchwiz lags all the damn time. Funny thing is, I'll take those PC like functions any day even if it lags. In my country, we still share files via Bluetooth, WIFIDIRECT, copy movies and mp3 files directly to our phones. This functions are very still important and IOS doesn't offer that so yeah. We will take the lag any day whiles you enjoy your closed semi smooth IOS.
