Samsung Galaxy A90 rumored to be firm's first phone with a pop-up camera

Samsung Galaxy A90 rumored to be firm's first phone with a pop-up camera
A tweet from tipster Ice Universe states that Samsung is working on a new mid-range phone that won't have a notch or a punch-hole in order to keep its thin bezels. Instead, the Samsung Galaxy A90 will use a mechanical pop-up camera similar to the one first seen on the Vivo NEX S. The Galaxy A90 is expected to eventually be a replacement for the Galaxy A9 (2018) (see image at the top of this article), and rumored specs call for a device with 6GB to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

While a pop-up camera does help to make the display pristine, it does have some potential issues. Some worry about the durability of the motorized drive that pushes the camera up and back down again. And a phone with a pop-up camera is most likely not going to have an IP rating for protection from dust and water. The aforementioned Vivo NEX S does not sport an IP rating, and neither does the Galaxy A9 (although for different reasons).

Speaking of the Galaxy A9 (2018), which was just released last November, this is the first smartphone to come with a quad-camera setup on back, and it is equipped with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display. Throw in plenty of memory and storage, and a large 3800mAh battery, and you'll see why there is no reason for Sammy to replace this model anytime soon.

Samsung may be working on a pop-up camera for the Galaxy A90, but this year is all about the punch-hole. The Galaxy A8s (aka Galaxy A9 Pro for the international market) was the company's first handset to feature a punch-hole selfie camera, and the trend will continue with the upcoming flagship Samsung Galaxy S10 line.

Good to see Samsung trying so many variations in its quest to make the best possible experience for the consumer.

I like the hole the best, but then again I love it when companies give several options.

A simple non-motorized pop up camera would be more interesting to me, but it's nice to see this concept gaining momentum.

How is the A9, are the cameras truly that awful, allegedly there. Was a camera recently for the A9 which improved image quality?.

Shouldn't have any bezel at all then. Popup camera, and bezel don't mix.

Why do you think it will have bezel ?

That's just the A9. Assuming there will be minimal bezel on the A90 as you're 100% correct in that it's a waste if they have bezel and workaround camera.

This is smart of Sammy. Testing the concept and durability on a mid-ranger. I can see them fully employing this on next year's flagships. Hole punch is a transitionary solution imo.

Pop up camera doesn't mean that phone will be perfect! If it is motorized than it will definitely won't be perfect.

Android phones had so much love for the chin. Why not copy appleā€™s screen

That's actually Samsung's screen, as far as who makes it. Keep trying, we're amused at desperation for attention.

Since when did 3800 mah battery become a 'large' battery?
