Samsung working on forming a partnership between Tizen and Firefox OS

Just how badly does Samsung want to split from Android? Amid rumblings that the Korean based manufacturer feels responsible for Android's success (to be fair, Samsung does have the lead in global market share amongst smartphone manufacturers), Samsung’s Chief Secretary Wonsuk Lee said at an HTML5 conference that thecompany is working on fostering a relationship between its Tizen OS and Firefox OS...

It's hard enough to get people to understand how much better Android is than iOS and despite popular misnomers how simple it actually is. Why in the crap would you leave the OS that all your users have come to love and took the time to learn?

Because no matter how much they adapt/copy others (not saying this in a bad) they are still of the old school mentality of proprietary OS and full control. That is just how it works with these idiots and they don't realize that they sucked and still suck at OSes and should focus on their hardware strengths instead of trying to completely take over everything. All that remains now is that in the attempt they will fail at everything. Lucky for them, Google is nice enough to let them hedge their bets by letting them use Android in the interim and concurrently.

"Letting" them use Android? People are so butt-hurt about Samsung's success.

So much hate LMAO .. Honestly I don't get why people get butthurt that Samsung and Co are trying to build a new mobile OS. Come on ... Competition is good and always welcome. Ultimately we comsumers will get benefits of choices! Windows, iOS, Android, Firefox, Ubuntu, Tizen .. Awesome LOL

Android is slow, resource hungry, has tons of security holes. And Java sucks.

I don't know what Android handsets you're using, but my HTC One & Nexus 4 are anything but slow and resource hungry. Tons of security holes? No more do than iOS or other OSes out there.

Android is the number one mobile OS by a factor of 4, used by the number one smartphone manufacturer by a factor of over 2. And that sucks for you. TIFTFY

That is absolutely correct. There are more junk android smartphones being used than any other smart phone.

Awwww. Maybe you and Ozzy's former guitarist here could get together and apply the Preparation H to each other. And brainstorm some more excuses and rationalizations. Meanwhile, I'll be deciding whether or not to upgrade my S3 to a Note 3 off contact or wait until next year to see what is coming down the pike.

just becuase you have bad experience on Android on 1 phone does not apply to other people nor other phones. You don't speak for everyone in the billions user on the number 1 platform of all time. Go cry somwhere else bud.

shamataa -- you don't get it. About 70% of android devices are just junk. It's not one person saying it -- it's billions of people saying android sucks.

ardent1 life must suck for you. So bother by Samsung and Android success. The rest of us just enjoy the value that both Android and Samsung brings. If i think fire fox OS is better i will get it, i don't think i will ever need your biased advise on phone.

Billions, eh? Since you're already out there, why not just go ahead and claim trillions of people are saying Android sucks. It's not like you have any credibility left to worry about.

that's why KitKat can run smoothly on 512 MB RAM? First, Java in Android is different, it uses dalvik virtual machine, not Oracle JVM. It's optimized. Not all the code in java app need to be translated into virtual machine, sometime certain codes can be executed directly in the OS without translation in VM. That's why today's java can be as fast as the program written in C++. Second, resource hungry because the apps use skins. Rip the skins, it becomes lighter and runs smooth. Now I dare MS and Apple to run Java in their OS. Can java apps in their OS run as smooth as Android? it will lag as hell. Google has done great job here optimizing java in android. Tons of security holes? Please mention at least 100 of them. That's what happens when an OS is number 1, becomes the target of hacker & attacker. Just like MS windows becomes the target of 750,000 viruses.

Don't waste time replying to him, he's one of those rabid iFans, they'll use whatever logic (sometimes just bashing like in this case) to put down anything but iOS. If you haven't read one of his crazy rants about x64 and how it will only work on iOS, I suggest you continue not doing so, its utter BS.

So you are talking about things you heard of. I'm talking about what I'm working on. Java is sh*t. Dalvik isn't any different. The only meaningful difference between JVM and Dalvik is they are each stack/register based. Google adopted Dalvik only on the purpose not to pay a single cent to Oracle. (They succeeded in that) The Zygote instance of Dalvik interpreter and even interpM suck. Comparable native codes run roughly 20 times as fast as the VM and about five times as fast as Dalvik JIT. Both Apple and MS hate Java for the reason. Google chose Java not because it's good, but there was no choice left : Being a web company, most of its engineers were proficient with Java the most. And unlike Apple or MS, Google had no toolchain, no IDE. With Java, Google was able to "misuse" the whole development environment Sun had established. Eclipse and all the plugins around without paying a single cent. Oracle has every right to be furious. Java sucks. period.

Well, I am a programmer, and comparing Java to .NET, Java is terribly slow. I don't really know what the problem is, coz they both use managed code and require runtimes (or VMs in the Java world) and have garbage collectors. Programming for Windows Phone is a very smooth experience comparing to Android. No comparison. But I still love Android and use Visual Studio, C# and Xamarin to code for Android

Why blame Android? Blame all the OEMS, using outdated CPU, which can't keep up with the OS. Android multitasks more than your PC, it runs so many apps that the OEMS are only providing so less RAM, and CPU that it can't keep up with the OS. The CPUs are so weak that it struggles to push Flash on phones. A57, A15s are the perfect CPUs, but OEMs are not providing better battery, slim like the RazrMax.

MeeGO had true Multitasking and did amazing things and ran amazing things using thanks to all the developers on what was it running on 1 gb of ram and 1 GHz single core processor so yes android is the blame because it's designed in a way that makes it resource hungry and it runs on java as JakeLee said

Well way much better than halfbaked OS, that cant truly mulitask. Still no way near Android. To become like it, they will need to raise Cpu speed.

I'm pretty sure Motorola and and the Droid Tag line was what put Android on the map before Samsung did.
