To be honest, I don't think it's a good idea for Samsung to buy BlackBerry. Sure, BlackBerry would be safer with Samsung, but what's the point anyways? John Chen still havent accomplish his mission yet.

I don't think Blackberry is worth 7,5 billion!

I bet the canadian government wouldn't be too happy about this as well as some of the other factors meanestgenius mentioned. They probably would allow a partial buyout or sale of patents, but I doubt Blackberry would be interested in this, it would probably be all or nothing.

Definitely look for the Canadian government to block this move, as well as the U.S.government weighing in heavily with a big fat NO.

Samsung should also buy Sony's smartphone division.

That would be a more likely thing to happen than Samsung purchasing BlackBerry.

There is no need for Samsung to waste their money. Other than materials of the device, they offer a more superior flagship product in both hardware and software terms. Sony's mobile business does not really have much to offer Samsung. Maybe this could be a chance for one of the large Chinese mobile firms as they might actually gain something tangible from a buyout. Blackberry's assets could be very useful to Samsung but I seriously doubt that the Canadian government would allow an outright purchase.

Geez..... Sony is making noise about selling off it's handset civision, Motorola has been sold twice, and Nokia is a mapping and software developer now. BlackBerry was just getting pats on their virtual backs over their steps to recover from their last 2 CEO regimes being asleep at the wheel. Samsung and BlackBerry. I suggest everyone go to CrackBerry.com right now. There will be some serious posters flipping out. Will be fun reading.

Hmm I wonder what future products Samsung can create if the purchase goes through.

That wasn't even remotely funny, if you're referring to who I think you're referring to.

Wasn't the Torch the vertical slider one?

Yes. It was a great form factor that I hope BlackBerry implements again in the near future, updated specs and larger screen size in tow.

For some reason. I think this will actually happen. We've seen crazier things. I just thought BlackBerry would be worth more.

Now is the time to sell that BlackBerry stock though....it went up like 30%. Better sell now if the rumors aren't true. I don't think that s**t will be going up on their own.

Actually for some reason I can more easily imagine you humping your iPhone or whatever godawful thing you use.

Even if Samsung bought Blackberry, they will never be able to beat Apple. How pathetic XD

They already make better products. It's just up to the public to recognize it and jump on board, see past the hype.
