Samsung ready to start making 1080p Super AMOLED HD panels in 2013

Samsung is going to start mass production of 1080p Super AMOLED HD displays at some point in 2013, according to several reports coming from the far east. Excited? You should be! A panel like that would have a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels, which would translate into a pixel density of over 400 pixels, depending on the screen's size. Such displays are already being manufactured for devices like the HTC J Butterfly, yet they use LCD technology instead of AMOLED. The latter, despite being known for its broader color gamut, deep black tones, and shorter response time, still does not allow production of displays of such high resolution...

Blueish tint is not a problem on my GNOTE II screen. Samsung almost get rid of it. We can assume that it will no longer exist on the next gen SuperAMOLED HD.

A bit curious as the manufacturer of iPad3's and Nexus 10's superhighres retina screens, Samsung's having troubles producing 5" fullHD devices (especially with Exynos 5 being developed exactly to support such technology). But even more interesting why are they sticking with AMOLED, when their LCD and PLS screes are pretty great too.

Great question, I also want to find out why, and my guess is SS must support the technology b-c that's SS big investment and they must recoup the money. And AMOLED is not bad and it has great potential.

because AMOLED is more appealing to customers.. most people out there don't care about natural colours but more beautiful vibrant colours.

Yeah I'm sure I'll see one of their 1080p displays in my next phone.

Instead of making amoled have crazy resolution I wish they would just fix the numerous problems thay have already. Bluish green whites, pentile screens, overstatured colors...

Battery tech is getting better and better every year... Look at the Droid Razr Maxx. Bigger, HD screen and gets MORE talk time and daily usage than the previous gen. Processor, battery and power efficiency is what matters the most.

You guys pay too much attention to phone arena critics against Amoled screens.if Apple was the one using Amoled suddenly it will become a standard for all phones.I don't believe there is anything like natural colors when it comes to screens.no matter what you do you can never have a natural color on a screen.Amoled is one reason Samsung has become successful.people like the saturated color.no matter how bad phone arena try to make them look. I don't like LCDs cos they look washed out compared to Amoleds.

Have to admit, I agree about washed out. I never did until I got my first Amoled screen. I admit I was blindly hating in 2010. Its evident in videos, pics and I was still looking a blind eye. Now....ppl compare Amoled to LCD and say you wont notice blue tint unless compared to something better. Well.....you wont notice washed out until you compare it to something better. You wont notice the better blacks and contrast Amoled screens have until compared to something not as good. LCD and Amoled on their own look almost perfect for the most part....compared to each other....you see the pros n cons....of both. Thats why, we all have to choose what we can and cant live with.

The previous Amoled display's did have some issues. But Sammy has worked on that w/ eliminating the pentile setup in the new Galaxy note 2. And its setup is better then those of the past.

I will never consider full hd necessary on a phone display. If I were to improve on my galaxy s3, I'd rather have a better battery life and RGB 720p screen, thank you. It's already great even with pen tile - just needs a better calibration

Anyway, the Amoled you using is from Japan and you just steal their technology and claim yours. Amoled is still not as good as the display by Japan Display, this is what technology is. The display used by Sony will be the best.

Why would Samsung even consider LCD panel from Japanese company or LG when it currently manufactures 1080P LCD (SLCD). Lame!

Samsung does not make the 1080p display it is sharp. HTC is sharp and Japan display for their LCD panal.
