Officials from South Korean carriers aren't too excited about Samsung's new flagship because it's not much different than the Galaxy S8. Also, market watchers suggest that more and more people are holding onto their smartphones for a longer time, which significantly hurts smartphone sales...

Like seriously, apart from Techie, who thought the S9 will outsell the S8? It's a small update over the S8, fixing and improving all the areas that people complained about. It's more an option for S7 and S6 owners to upgrade to, than an upgrade for the S8 owners.

I think the s8 would be the better buy if you can buy it at a very good price.

I'm looking for an excuse to get another phone, but to me there's nothing that compelling to replace my note 4. Yes, it's over 3yrs old. But the screen is 2k, the battery is 3220mah I believe and replaceable, got 3gig of ram, plenty of space, and the 805 in this is still doing its thing for me. The specs in this phone aren't getting blown out by today's specs, it can still hang. True, the OS is dated, that's probably the biggest factor. Oh, no problems with the fps and where it's located either. The s9 looks good, I'm still ticked off about sealed in batteries. This phone has wireless charging, but I never use it, it cooks your battery too.... I digress, rant over

If you're pleased with your phone from a hardware standpoint, but feel it needs a newer version of Android, why not go on XDA and flash one of the roms out there? It's gonna take full advantage of the Note 4's hardware, and you'll feel like you got yourself a new phone.

From a Note 4, I see plenty of reasons to upgrade. Most of Samsungs peripherals doesn't really work with a Note 4.

Even if the pre-orders are below the expectations they will never say that. Just like Apple who said that the demand for iPhone X was on the top notch and now everyone sees that the demand is on 50% of the expectations. These are well-known marketing tricks. Even if I'm planning to order S9 just because I'm looking for some upgrade for my S6 Edge this doesn't mean that Sammy's new phone is a goal for everyone. They did very good phones last year and only those who are having older phones will think about some upgrades. Samsung shouldn't think that their followers are the same as Apple followers who are upgrading from iPhone 6 to iPhone 6S to iPhone 7 and now to iPhone 8 just because ...it's new.

Apple and Samsung are the best selling phones in the market today. But the diffrent between both company is Apple own there OS Samsung don’t.

"everyone sees that the demand is on 50% of the expectations." Only people without brain would think demand is 50% less. Fact is march average iPhone sales have been around 50 million. All iPhones combined, so you see it doesn't make any sense that Apple could sell 40 million X models. Apple selling 40 million X this q would mean they would beat their holiday q sales which is well impossible. The 20 million X after that "50%" drop actually is realistic number and would give Apple their best march q ever or close to it "Samsung shouldn't think that their followers are the same as Apple followers who are upgrading from iPhone 6 to iPhone 6S to iPhone 7 and now to iPhone 8 just because ...it's new." This is also nonsense, only fraction of users upgrade every year

S9/S9+ sales will be lower than S6/S7/S8. Small difference over S8 and price too high. Android have choices and not like iOS without choices.

You can’t buy iPhone X still you can buy iPhone 8 Plus you can’t buy 8 plus you can buy 7 Plus and all are powerful devices with update OS for 4 years unlike andriod.

My S6 is 3 years old and still gets monthly updates. Maybe it will get Oreo as well. My wife has iPhone 6s and the performance dropped significantly after the last few iOS updates. Not sure which one broke everything. I don't really care for the security updates but mostly on the stability and the performance of the phone. If the Apple support for 4 years is still a valid reason and a real deal for you - I'm fine with that.

Agree with you about the issue with iPhone 6 and 6S with update. But Apple after these issues don’t think so it’s going to happen again with iPhone 7 and 7 plus, Samsung security patch it's important for your phone cause it’s not meant only for security update actullay Samsung fix some software issues with it including bug fixes and overall performance improvement.

S9 is a pathetic upgrade even for s7 owner. This phone will be a flop. They will be lucky to sell one third of iPhone X. There are plenty of great Android phone option with half or even lower price of s9. you can get Nokia 7 plus or xiaomi redmi note 5 pro with better software that wouldn't get laggy within 3 months. Especially nokia 7 plus is awesome, it's better than s9 in almost every way.

I can back your opinion wholeheartedly. Galaxy S9/S9+ are definitely going to be flops. Nokia 7 plus and Sony XZ2 are my fav in 2018 so far.

Samsung, we won’t upgrade our phones yearly. Please just bring proper software updates.

Don't have any freebies promo unlike the last couple galaxy/note releases.. just the trade in promo which I can't use

Not shocked at all. It's just a S8 with a different fingerprint scanner location, improved camera and new chip. The design and OS are the same.
