Samsung has lost $12 billion of market value in August alone, on top of $44 billion losses since April

Samsung announced its Galaxy Note5 and S6 edge+ phones a little bit earlier this year, aiming to steal the show from Apple's upcoming September 9 event, as well as the just-started IFA 2015 trade show in Berlin. The high-end duo is already on the market and if some of the more recent reports are to be believed, the Note5 and the S6 edge+ are effectively outselling the Galaxy Note 4 and the Note Edge in Samsung's homeland, South Korea...

Don't know, but removing those features will definitely help the Note 4 and s5 sales. I just picked up two Note 4s on Aug 22.

According to reports, the S6 and Note 5 are selling much better than the S5 and Note 4.

S6 is a beautiful and monster device, no doubt about it but it has some features lacking that made people turned off with it. Meanwhile, Samsung marketing heads ex-Apple marketing heads will become ex-Samsung marketing heads again. Stop listening to Apple fans Samsung, just do your own thing and have your own identity. Listen to the majority because android was designed for the masses.

They will be fine. They may never reach their high again, which was when the GS4 flew off the shelves and so did junk like the Ace iix. But at least the GS6 seems to be the first to match the GS4 and pass the GS3. Plus the Note 5 should outsell the Note 4. I think they should take that and just cut expectations. The ACE IlX will never sell again. Microsoft will never reach their high ever again either but they are fine. They have their money makers(Windows) and their losers(Smartphones) too. Samsung has both too.

I think Samsung's issue is brand dilution. Apple has the iPhone....albeit different models but they're pretty much the same experience regardless. Samsung started naming every phone they came out with "Galaxy" including the cheap, plastic, crappy prepaid phones. The issue is that the average consumer doesn't know the difference between that and the S/Note line or doesn't care. I hear people all the time talking about "The Galaxy phone" they have no idea what is what...and by Samsung releasing basically 40 models all with the name "Galaxy" thrown in there somewhere...they cheapened their brand as a basic consumer confuses the 50 dollar cheap prepaid phone with Samsung in general. I don't think the naming scheme has helped at all. Samsung's newest phones are the zippiest and least bloated, nice performing phones I've owned, at least in my experience and I've had quite a few of the S and Note models. They did to clearly differentiate ASIDE from price, that the Galaxy S6 and Note 5 and whatever other "flagships" are in no way a representation of the "Galaxy Relay Prime Core Duo Touch 4G" you just spent 40 dollars on with MetroPCS. At least that's how I feel. Too many models, too confusing for people who don't follow these things...and that's the mainstream.

Yes and no, it's now clear if you go in a shop what the good Samsung phones are just by looking at them, unlike before

Sometimes I get the feeling that Samsung's team party throughout the year and when two months before the launch of their new flagship devices they rush and build something(I don't think they put as much thinking into their flagships as they should). Android OS is just whack!!! And it helps Samsung's devices to look bad (though Samsung is dominating the Android market) Android OS is so inconsistent in more ways than one. I think Samsung should launch their flagship devices with their own in-house OS along with the Android version

Samsung....taking away what made your phone's great, believing in the hype online with metal being more premium, and as such sacrificing other features? will cause people that don't believe said hype to be unhappy. Either step it up with SGS7, make it metal if you want, fix the slipperiness issue it has, add micro sd card slot again, (and just run it via usb internal 'adapter' or similar to avoid issues that were claimed with new memory), make it water and dust proof compared to Sony's Z products. You know..make a whole complete product...and for hecks sake, don't make it 4k screen, qhd should be max.

That's ok though. It's just their Electronics Division. The actual company causes more than this.

I don't know what Economics class you took or didn't. No company can lose that kind of loot!!!.

He took an economics class that taught him what market cap means, and how it differs from profit and revenue. I suggest you find out which class that was, and sign up.

They will continue to lose money--they aren't Apple as they would like to be. Mass production market of electronics: Galaxy S6, Edge, Edge Plus, Note5 (4 phones alone Since April) and that's not including all of the other mini's, cores, primes, A series and many more I can't even name they have produced--and for the market to go out and spend $700 upwards in price for a phone that's not even worth $100 dollars a year later. As long as there are ordinary and tedkord around, they will continue to push products. The fal in value will continue.

Then how do you explain Apple losing over $110 billion market cap since April, and $48 billion just in August alone?

I don't care about Samsung's Kia models, either. But their Ferrari (Note) and Bentley (S6/Edge) models are fantastic.
