F1.5 is bigger than F2.4. Same way 1/1.5 is bigger than 1/2.4. Of course, depends on sensor size. That is why 1/2.3" is used with f2.0

That's like saying 1/4 is bigger than 1/3 because 4 > 3.

f-numbers for apertures appear to work backwards. An f/1.5 lets in more light than an f/1.8. The number is proportional to the area that is obscured by the diaphragm

Wow. I need to see this in practice but this sounds very promising given the results line up with the theory. I place number importance in camera (not just the image quality but also the interface and manual capabilities) when choosing a phone. That's why I've stuck with LG for last two years. The manual mode is such a joy to use. If Samsung can really pull this off and produce the results they've been known for, the Galaxy S9 will probably be my next phone. I'll get the moment lenses for tele and wide angle shots. I'll use the Google camera apk provided by XDA for portrait mode shots if Samsung doesn't employ their own single lens version. Then I'll be pretty much set. I won't have to give up expandable storage or a headphone jack unlike the Pixel 2 which was enticing to me. Until then still enjoying my V20.

The camera is the last thing I care about while buying a smartphone and this is why I buy galaxy S phones as they are loaded with things I care about but seems like this time Samsung is focusing on camera only and not bringing other exciting features over S8 so it'll be difficult for me to go for one tho I was highly excited

That is actually awesome. Maybe one day, we get the full mechanical shutter setup too? Get our little phones to sound like proper big cameras?

Once I read "Nokia N86" I almost wept. I wish they -Nokia- would get back to those days

Beast phone and the specs are always on top with samsung, I think im going to jump on the S9+ if the rumors are correct. On other hand I would like more Ram on the phone though.

What a horrible gimmick. These sensors are so small that you WANT it to be at f1.5 all the time. There shouldn't be any reason it should be f2.4. You want all the light you can get. Samsung needs to stop with these gimmicks and give us something tangible like better HDR. Innovate like Google has with the camera.

Horrible gimmick? Lol, if any company innovates it's Samsung. Not officially the mostost copied company of 2017. And I guess you all this how? You've got your own multi billion R&D department? Get outta here! Keep your panties on. All pixel has done is software. The hardware is nowhere near Samsung. S9 will have Smart WDR by the way, basically doing the same with regards to Pixel HDR. Don't forget, Pixel HDR often has a very nasty side effect, meaning the subject in the foreground is way to dark.

Excellent! I badly need a 1000fps slow-mo cam for recording and analyzing my golf swing, 240fps is simply not slow enough. For me this is a major feature that I will use regularly. Exciting stuff !

Don't get too excited.. If they use the same DRAM size as Sony's camera, it will be very hard to time it correctly (the whole slo-mo recording is just 0.18 seconds)

Luckily, unlike Sony, you can also shoot at 1080p 480fps, which is slow enough on its own and increases the quality.

Does live focus work with s9 , since it has only one camera?
