Samsung denies cheating on benchmark tests

The evidence seems pretty hard to argue, but Samsung wants to try anyway. Multiple sources have found that Samsung (as well as most other Android manufacturers) artificially boost CPU frequencies when the system detects a benchmarking test running. Samsung is denying that its devices are trying to cheat the tests, and is actually putting the blame on the tests themselves...

Someone please tell me if this "maximization" applies to games or not. If it does, then why's it matter if it applies to benchmarks as well?

Because they are using a whitelist. If the app's name matches the name in the whitelist, they are maximized. Not in the list, it'll be running at normal speeds (nexus).

Get a life. You know Samsuck has to fudge the benchmarks because it caters to specboys who buy on benchmarks and screen size. Despite the cheat even an 8-core Samsuck got blown away by the iPhone 5s.

Nothing that wasn't expected. It looks like that the only way there is today to say that one phone is better than the other is comparing benchmark results. Every OEM knows how those results are important to some customers so it's only normal everyone will cheat to try and sell another phone. Since almost every OEM does it no need to bash Samsung but they could ar least admit it..

Wish there was a way for Google to whitelist the apps at the OS level. Everyone would be playing fair then. Unfortunately it'll be abused by malware - one disadvantage of the open systems. As far as the reviews go, PA should post the benchmarks with the booster off. Or just ignore it altogether and spend a couple more days and post real life performance ratings which again would end up being subjective sometimes - bummer.

Shamesung on the road again. Where is your morale? It is not enough for you, that you copy everything, you also have to cheat customers.

I dont understand why its being blown out of proportion. Giving benchmark tests at maximum utilisation of the CPU means we can understand the limit of the device. Isnt that everyone wants that under heaviest load how much the device perfoms? i feel scores should be calculated for all the devices at maximum loads. whats wrong with that?

Note 3 Android 4.3.1 OTA update available. changelog: We noticed that our we missed one benchmark app in our whitelist. Added GFXB 2.7 in the cheat list.

You bunch of bashing fangirls. There are no real, intelligent arguments anymore. This is all I see: *random fanboy sees random stranger about to buy a Note 3* Fanboy: Hey! Stop right there! Consumer: Excuse me? Fanboy: Yeah, you! Don't buy that! Consumer: What is your problem? I like it. Why can't I? Fanboy: Geez! Haven't you heard? Samsung cheats with their phones in benchmark apps! Consumer: wut? *buys the phone and enjoys life as he knows it, wins the lottery and his life's regrets magically disappear* Fanboy: Gosh darn it! I need to find more material! Calm your tits, girls. Technology is awesome, and if it makes you happy, you should get it.
