Samsung confirms plans to launch a Galaxy Note 7 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space (but only in China)

Speaking at a Galaxy Note 7 launch event in Seoul, South Korea, Samsung Mobile chief Koh Dong-jin confirmed plans to release a version of the handset with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. However, it looks like this will be available only in China - just as previously speculated.

According to The Korea Herald, Koh Dong-jin said that they're "reviewing the rollout" of this upgraded Galaxy Note 7 in China because local smartphone makers are "aggressively doing marketing with high-capacity memory." Globally, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes with just 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage space, but it should be similar in all other aspects to the upgraded Chinese model.

It's well known that Samsung has troubles competing with Chinese handset vendors, as sales of its smartphones have slid for a third year in a row in China. With that in mind, it makes sense for the company to try and lure Chinese users with the best specs it's got. However, it would be nice - at least for some customers - if Samsung would also release a superior version of the Galaxy Note 7 globally. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's happening, but we'll let you know if we hear anything about this.
