Samsung can't say if the S10's camera ring animation will be used as notification light 'at this sta
For the new Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10+, Samsung went with an ultrathin top bezel and a hole-in-active-area design. For the surprise of many an S10 buyer, however, that also means that the LED light that used to bring us visual notifications about charging status or missed calls and messages in the Galaxy S9, is also gone.

Granted, there is a light ring animation around the in-display front camera area when you do face recognition and such, but it doesn't serve a notification purpose just yet. Eventually, Samsung may choose and use it for other notifications with an update, and we asked if it intends to do so, but at this point, it can't confirm anything of the sorts:

Rather boilerplate, as can be expected for phones that have been designed without an LED notification light, but we keep our hopes hooked to the "at this stage" part.

While you wait on an update that may or may not come, you can use the new and improved Always On Edge lighting app from the Play Store as a stopgap solution for the type of visual notifications you see on our S10 unit below.
