Samsung OMNIA HD - not an OMNIA any more

Samsung OMNIA HD - not an OMNIA any more
Funny thing about humans - we tend to remember names much easier than numbers. So, we bet most of you have heard of OMNIA HD by now but only a few have remembered that its model number is the i8910. It seems that it is time to get accustomed to these numbers, as according to MobileCrunch, Samsung has decided to drop the OMNIA HD moniker and to refer to the phone as the i8910 only. The decision has been taken in order to “…avoid confusion between the original Omnia, which is Windows Mobile, and OmniaHD, which is Symbian…”.

If this is true, the OMNIA family name will be left for WM phones only. However, we prefer the OMNIA HD name to the i8910 model, and you?

I'm really excited about this phone. I hope it comes through ATT, it seems like Verizon gets all the nice high end phones though.

With the intention of not flaming you.... "ARE YOU SERIOUS?" Verizon gets all the high end phones? This must not be the same Verizon that I have as my provider...seeing as how we usually get the nice phones about a year after everyone else in the world has them.

IMO Verizon has the best phones out of every carrier. ATT just doesn't have very many phones that really jump out at you.

Im a Verizon customers and i think they have SOME nice phones but as a whole they do not. Now when it comes to At@t i think they are on par with Verizon but the only think i like about them is that they are GSM. So if your looking for a windows phone i can buy a Xperia Xi, Touch HD, Omnia and when available the Omnia HD. The only drawbacks are compatability with your network and the cost of buying the phone. Now everyphone takes a year. The Omnia only took 6 months to come to Verizon. The real problem is that these phones are typically made for the European/Asian market first and they use GSM.

Yes, that's why Bonnie Cha of CNET actually recommended the original Omnia to the Blackberry Storm. ;)

she is just another person reviewing the storm. not an owner dude

But be reasonable. At the time of the Storm's buggy release, the Omnia was a better option because it wasn't sluggish and had minimal bugs.

If the Storm 2 fixes the problems the first one has it will be an amazing phone. The worst part about the storm isn't the phone it's the freaking fanboys.

heavybreathing do you own a storm?

I don't own a storm, my GF owns one though and I mess with it constantly. It's a really decent phone but the texting is worthless and it feels like if you drop it from 1 foot up on a carpet the screen will friggin fall out. Do I like the Storm? I do. Do I think the updated Storm will blow the current one out of the water? I do. Will I ever own one? Nope. 1. Because I don't want to be seen as a Verizion fanboy like well...fill in the blanks 2. Because it's just not a phone that appeals to me. Does that mean I'll ever own an iphone? Nope. 1. Because I don't want to be seen as an Macfag 2. Because its just not a phone that appeals to me. I'm a big fan of Samsung, I'm looking heavily at the Eternity and the i8910 ATM.

So your choice of phone is based off of what other peoples perception of you is??????? Dude you are just sad.

@ heavybreathing are you looking at the Impression? I also want the i8910, but I got a feeling that ATT will bypass it because of the rumored New Iphone to come this summer. I may go for the Impression myself, But I think I should wait...

No my choice of phone is based on the the features of the phone and not the brand name on it. Read what I type next time. And I think your question mark key sticks, I'd look into getting your keyboard replaced. @ drewsky I don't like the Impression, it seems like most of the time if you have a touchscreen and a qwerty keyboard you get halfassed versions of both. Plus the thing looks thick as fuck. If I want a QWERTY keyboard i'll get a phone with a good keyboard. Same thing with the touch screen.

Samsung i have a few questions for you? 1) How dumb do you think your customer base is? Anyone who knows about phones could tell you every major difference between the Omnia and Omnia HD. 2) When are you releasing the upgrade to the Touch Wiz UI? 3) I know the Omnia HD oops i mean I8910 is running Symbian but the original was Windows Mobile. Why did you change to Symbian and are you making Windows version of the I8910? 4) What are we looking at for pricing and will there be multiple versions? P.S. I know all the answers to these questions but i want to see if any other people have any information i overlooked. I will also be sending out another email to Samsung with similiar questions to see what kind of BS answers i get. Thanks

for your first question, you'd be suprised at the numner of dummies that would get the two confused. second question- I think the new Touch Wiz UI will be in june but not 100% sure third question- I heard the change to Symbian was just to try another OS Fourth Question- I really have no idea, But I would say it will be multiple versions.

Yeah I agree with drewsky. People can be dumb. When I told someone I had the Iphone 3G, she told me that she thought three gigabytes was too small and would rather have 8 or 16 gigabytes. I told her that I did have 8 gigabytes. Then she said that she thought I just said I had the iphone 3g. This ended up to be a pretty long conversation.

So what ive gathered from your response is that people are stupid, the new UI is MAYBE coming in June and that there will be multiple versions. Now in regards to question 3 Samsung has to pay MS a licensing fee some where around $30 for every unit they ship. Now when you use the Symbian OS there is no licensing fee so in the end Samsung is saving millions of dollars. Another funny i was reading states that Samsung does not find Windows Mobile to be very customer focused and Windows 6.5 is delayed.
