Samsung Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6s dominate our blind camera comparison, LG G4 and iPhone 6 – not as much

Boy, that iPhone 6s has a pretty good camera, doesn't it? We probably won't be far from the truth if we say it's one of the best smartphone cameras around. But its high-end rivals don't lag far behind and might even outpace it in certain situations. At least that's what we can walk away with after examining the results of last week's blind camera comparison...

Good contest, the top two have their tradeoffs (reviews I've seen say the S6 favors macro/closeup while the 6S favors landscape). I'm a little disappointed by the G4's results, although by most accounts it is also a fine camera.

2 things 1: when iPhone won it only just won, when s6 won it won big time. 2: all images for s6 was cut and sized to help iPhone out, this will have made the s6 images and the G4 images not as good as they will have been and will have made the 6s look better in some cases When you look at this it's a clear win to the s6

I hate 4:3 aspect ratio and I don't understand why Apple doesn't wanna add a camera that can shoot 16:9 aspect ration at full resolution. 4:3 is lame!

What? The iPhone cameras can shot 16:9. In many cases Apple uses the same sensor from Sony as Samsung does. In fact the 8MP camera that was in the iPhoen 4S/5/5S were the same as what the S4 had. Samsung still took photos at 16:9. I dont know what Apple does to force the camera to take 4:3. I would assure because this is the aspect ratio of the iPad and its keeps the photo so it fits properly to the iPad. The downside to this test is this. As another poster states. Since the Samsung takes wider aspect ration photos, cropping the photo so its the same 4:3 as the iPhone, actually ruins the photo. It makes it dull, and it is less sharp. Even with the CHEATING, the S6 still won. How about PA we keep the tests fair. Dont drop the photos because we know then the S6 would have won every frikkin shot.

For the idiots, including the writer. You need to look at the score. In the votes where the iPhone 6S did win, the S6 was right behind within 400 votes. But in the cases where the S6 won, the gap between the S6 and iPhoen 6S were over 500 votes. In fact in one of the rounds where the S6 won, the iPhone 6s was 700 votes behind. This isn't tennis where the winner of the most rounds will have the highest score in the end. This is like basketball, baseball and football. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter what team had the lead for the most quarters or innings. What matter is what the final score is. Look closely: Round 1 - The iPhone beat the S6 by only 387 votes Round 2 - The iPhone beat the S6 by only 278 votes Round 3 - The S6 won by 638 votes Round 4 - The S6 won by 536 votes Round 5 - The iPhone beats the S6 by only 250 votes The margin of the win of the S6 above the iPhone 6S was much higher. The iPhone was more than trailing, it wasn't even in sight. Again if this was a basketball game, then the S6 simply won in overtime. It doesn't matter if the other team has the lead 4 full quarters and they end regulation with a tie. What matter is after overtime who has the highest score even if it was just 1 point. A win is a win no matter how far or close the scor eis. In tthis case it wasn't who won the most rounds, but who gets the most votes. If the iPhone had the most votes in the end, and we said well the S6 would 3 rounds; you all would have been like it does't matter. What matters is the votes. It shows how much you guys are nothing more than a bunch of hypocrites. Like I said in the other article, where all you stalemates were bragging about how the iPhone 6S mopped the floor with the Note 5 because it opened apps faster and I said that isn't gonna matter...just wait for the blind camera tests and we will see who the winner will be. In this case, the CPU speed or optimization of the app doesn't matter. What is going to matter is flat out optics and software processing of the photo. Oh and with the low light tests? With both phones now having 5MP cameras, its gonna be close. What is going to matter is 1.9 aperture vs 2.2 aperture. Its going to be close. What I can say is this, if the 6S still takes phones like the iPhone 6 did and Apple tried to compensate but trying to add more white balance, its going to lose. The photos may be brighter, but its going to look fake and to bright. 1.9 Aperture if going to win, considering the fanboys don't try to up vote the iPhone when it clearly isn't the winner.

Where's the Xperia Z5? The Note5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+? Why iphonearena doesn't make a blind camera test for the Iphone 5S 6 and 6S? That 3 phones have almost the same picture quality.

Both are great cameras. I don't see why people are arguing over something so small. "Oh look, my phone shows 5% more detail than your phone!"

The S6 photos lost a bunch of detail, due to the cropping and it still won. To me its cheating because the iPhone photos don't have to be cropped as much because they are 4:3 while the S6 takes 16:9.

And lost. Apple brings game every year. I think no phone will win every test. What will matter is the day to day tasks and what people use their phones for. I would say what matters most is call quality and camera quality. In those 2, the iPhone and Galaxy are top notched.

I would say what matters if your 6 months, 1 year, 2 years android phones will not get any update anymore.

What's the rush for planned-obsolescence updates that'll just bring your last year iOS devices to a crawl (bit.ly/1TqJAva | bit.ly/1ULkIA1) in order to force you to cough up more cash for another device and won't offer anything Android doesn't already offer? Especially considering the fact that if they're as horrible as iOS 8, you'll never have a choice to downgrade to an iOS version you liked on your device, 'cause Apple dictates what you can/can't do with that overpriced device you paid for... BTW, my Android device (OnePlus One) will be getting updates independent of both the Carrier and Manufacturer, so even when OnePlus Officially ends support, would still be getting updates, couldn't do that with any of my iDevices...

I did not say that iOS8, iOS9 is great or perfect. All I'm saying is don't leave behind those 6mons. or 1 year old phone stock in very old OS. Hell yeah! I like the new update for iOS.

I have had the S6 and now have the G4 and can honestly say as someone who has a good eye for photography the LG G4 beats the crap out of the iPhone and S6. The S6 I found dissappointing and was noisy in low light against the G4 which was stunning in low light with full manual controls. The iPhone in my view is still lacking in details and rather poor dynamic range it is not an amazing camera as reviewers always seem to make out. Phone Arena you and your readers are blind

Hmm let's use the words in a different way. "beats Crap out of iPhone and S6", sound similar like a comparison of black and white TV of 80''s and modern UHD Oled TVs. Frankly, I didn't find any major issue with above photos of any phone except that iPhone 6 had a slightly less detail but still not an issue. And for a reason I feel like you have not used S6 but only G4. Enjoy your purchase, it's a great device.

When the iPhone won in camera samples the S6 was right behind. However when the S6 won the iPhone was far behind. PA's logic is sort of okay because although the iPhone won 3 out of 5 but the S6 won more votes its hard to choose. I myself would have chosen the S6. Tough choice

I would take those results to mean the GS6 really excels at certain types of shots, but the 6S is a good all around camera. Which is all many buyers are looking for.

small vote difference is like 'on par'.. big difference is must 'something'.. right?

Mainstream customers would be happy with any of those 4 phones and they won't know the difference. Now low light is what matters for them to differentiate

Ok iPhone 6S took 3/5, while S6 took overall votes. They're both awesome cameras, lets stop the war.

Damn good phone. Apple has a good camera. All these phones do. Can't wait to get my 6s plus. Phone of the year. No bloat ware and updates on time. Maybe Samsung step it up next year. Right now iPhone offers the better over all package.

My eyes must be deceiving me but I can clearly see that the g6s is the best camera followed by a tie between the lg g4 and iphone 6s+ that's just my opinion. I'm a wp fan so you cant say that i'm bias (no wp phones were there)

While I can appreciate a 3-2 victory for iPhone, I don't think that is how you want to pick your camera. You want to choose an all around good camera, not one that wins big and loses big. The Galaxy was very consistently at the top so in this case I would go with most votes, or an average rather than wins and loses. Both are excellent, there's no shame in second or even third place. I also think there was a lot left untested that also should count toward best camera. Time to take a picture, low light, modes, pro mode, motion tracking, and focus speed for instance.
