Samsung Galaxy S IV rumor: expect 1080p, not an "unbreakable" display

0. phoneArena posted on 13 Dec 2012, 16:11

The general consensus seems to be that we'll see the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S IV released around April, so there is bound to be a good amount of speculation over the device features during the next couple of months. One main point seems to be in figuring out what to expect from the display. The newest rumors are saying earlier reports are wrong, and that we should expect 1080p, but not an "unbreakable" display...

See no point in a flexible display for a phone as that would serve no purpose because you would still have to place the display within a chassis to house all the components so flexible display on a phone is kind of dream like things for now. Perhaps on a wrist watch, the flexible display would work but as a cellular device, I don't see it working yet.
Funnier was the transparent displays, again totally useless on cellular devices as you would end up seeing the innards of the devices and that would be distracting and unattractive to boot. Great that they have things that will work sometime in the future just don't expect many of them to magically fit in todays devices yet.

No thanks. They can keep anything over 4.5 inches. My Nexii is way too big at 4.65. I don't have little hands, but I can't get my hands around the nexus and still use it one handed. and I do like one handed operation.

Did u even read his post, or were u in too much of a hurry to bash the iPhone. His post didn't even remotely mention the iPhone, or him having little hands.

I don't think that flexible tech is "not ready yet". I think it has been ready a long time ago. They probably had the technology to make 5" 1080p Super AMOLED+ screens years ago, but they are dosing the amount of tech for every new generation to make it profitable.

The way things are going, SGS4 should have 5" 1080p pentile screen. Then SGS5 might be RGB, and maybe flexible. Or they are leaving it for the SGS6.

Don't want/need a 1080 display on a smartphone. Didn't the American automobile industry go through something similar in the 50's when everyone was rushing to build bigger cars with bigger engines ? We all know how that turned out.

Unfortunately for you, no one realy cares what you want. Whether you like it or not, 1080p is here to stay for the forseeable future, deal with it because screen resolutions are only going to get higher and higher. In 10 years time, we'll probably find a way to exceed 1080p with minimal effect on battery life, technology moves on and people eventually deal with it.

Galaxy S-IV 4.9" 1080p SuperAMOLED Pentile matrix display and Note-III 5.9" 1080p SuperAMOLED non-pentile matrix (like Note2). Size of s-IV approx equals to s-III and Note-III almost equals size of Note2. Then that will be good...

I haven't seen a 1080p display on a smartphone so I can't exactly judge, but it just looks like a pretty high resolution for phones. I'd settle for 1600:900 for a laptop screen, that would be magnanimous on a phone screen. That should also increase performance and battery life in theory and also would probably make it easier to implement the unbreakable screen technology. I may be wrong on the last point but the first few points are undeniably true.
