Samsung Galaxy S III for AT&T loses its local search feature

0. phoneArena posted on 17 Jul 2012, 09:54

Samsung has issued a statement that it has sent out updates for the AT&T and Sprint versions of the Samsung Galaxy S III that disable the phone's ability to search within the phone; the manufacturer said it has done this as a "precautionay measure" so that U.S. customers can enjoy the device without interruption...

Good to see Samsung and Google working hard not to give apple a reason to sue.

Local search. Really? Good on you Samsung though. Taking steps to better serve your customers. My upgrade is next month and I will be furious if I can't get an S3. Though I think being sold out will be the real issue. Can't keep the phone in stock at my store.

Surely there are several other places to get your upgrade? as for myself i have 2 AT&T stores (Gainesville, GA) along with 3 walmarts and a best buy that i know of that do AT&T upgrades, perhaps you could go to another location for yours?

I'm a T-Mobile customer. Big reason I would want to stay at my store (Walmart), well, I work there, and the more money we bring in, the bigger the bonuses. Lol. That and our price is better than just about anywhere else. Corperate specifically.

OK, It's been a week since I got the GS3lll and so far it is a cool phone. So Samsung take note, I do have a issue to make public. There is no way to move apps to my SD card. I have downloaded apps that are suppose to do this, however they do not work on the GS3. Seems a little anal to have a SD card to store apps on but no way to store the apps. I do hope you will address this in the next firmware update. Why you included this feature without a workable solution is really stupid, but heck I guess you sold millions of units anyway, I guess you forgot to mention this?

Is there any reason you want to move apps to sd card? Galaxy phones have plenty of app storage!

unless the s3 is an exception, you can move most apps to sd by an app named MOVE TO SD. This will give you the option to move apps. however, some apps require to be installed in phone storage so you can't move them.

The capability to install Apps on the SD Card has been removed from S3. I have no idea what the reason behind this is. This has been discussed by many on some other sites and forums. But unlike HTC phones with very limited Internal Storage for Apps, S3 has 12GB for you to install Apps, so I guess, really it is still a lot.

i dont understand why they didnt do this :( and there is no non-root apps that let you move applications to the sd card.

you won't take more than 1GB of internal memory installing 200 apps, and that's a lot, not sure if you will use all of them. There are only about 50 apps in my phone and about 20 of them I use regularly, while the other 20 is occasionally, and the rest is there just in case.

I don't understand why you would need to move your apps to SD card since you've got at least 12GB for your apps and your SD card is free for your media contents. Just in case you don't realise, by moving it to SD card, you will lose the full widget functionality (esp if you remove the card) and you won't be able to swap cards easily because of all the apps inside it.

And if you are scared that those resource hogging 3D games will eat up your space, usually they will place the downloaded resource data on your SD card, not on your internal memory.

"Seems a little anal to have a SD card to store apps on but no way to store the apps" -> seems a little va**na to think that SD card is for you to store apps..

Yep, I wonder how long until the update rapes the Verizon S3's local search. Pitiful.

Pretty much any patent that comes across Koh will ultimately be in Apple's favor. It's like prior art is not in her vocabulary, unless of course it's in Apple's favor. I'm betting she's too afraid to give Samsung any slack because she's probably afraid that people will say she's voting pro Samsung because she's Asian, so she does the opposite aggressively to keep the race comments to nil.

Only on the AT&T version? I think AT&T is doing this on purpose because it can't allow its beloved iPhone to be outsold by an Android phone.

True, but AT&T has always had it and they have a close relationship with Apple.
